I will try to be brief. This is something I have and I know some people also have around the world. Its about remembering everything; and you can watch the memory with exact details, without changing, anytime you want, without needing any input from outside.

So, Hyperthymesia is remembering everything you go through like a video. It is not like having a "good" memory. It is like you can select an event and rewind, stop, forward; remember all the details, zoom, listen more carefully, in incredible resolution. When you go into the "movie" mode you blank out. You are basically blind till there is something obvious starts to happen in your peripheral or stops when you decide.

So here is the main thing:
Had many unfortunate events during my life. Sadly my life mainly consists of sadness and hardship... And I remember everything. I tried therapy, EMDR, and other things but none worked. These were some "ok lets do it" attempts with not so much waiting an improvement or anything, I just gave a chance.

There is an issue about finding candidates about the research the internet says. Do you have it? Do you think more research on this should be done? How can we improve it? Or for the ones like me, maybe disable it forever.
Off to you ATS

Thanks

p.s. I accepted everything I have been through. Its not the problem. I haven't tried hypnosis and I wont for some reasons. Its all accepted and absorbed.

Put into well words. Its like being in the moment always and you have the switch. I think being in the moment constantly saves everything cyristal clear.

I have a milder form of that in that I remember conversations verbatim even from years ago. It gets me in trouble when I will say, "Remember when you said that." and they'll say, "I never said that!" and I say, "Sure you did. We were having lunch at the Pub and you had a taco salad and you said "X" and then Mitch said "Y" and you said "Z"...... and they will say it never happened. It sure as hell did! But they have no recollection at all. Pretty frustrating.

Yes it happened to me too and it still happens. I am trying to decide if they would remember it before I speak and its frustrating.

You say you have the switch; is it something you can control? Like not letting your mind follow the sequences of unpleasant memories?

I know even for people without such an ability traumatic memories can take years of work to keep the scene from replaying.

Oh yea thats what I meant with the "switch". I can start and stop it. Sometimes you get carried away and then suddenly realize and stop also. When I was very little I couldn't control it. I tried to practice with a 3d scene in my mind to solve the controlling issue because anything your mind thinks about in the background it messes up. Here is the most basic thing I could come up with at that time. Let me explain:

I thought about a stick man running on a thread mill. But the thread mill band got some parts missing where you had to jump because I thought about it at that moment. With the impulse you suddenly imagine the ripped band parts and then your character has to jump. The thing was to keep trying to have the band constant. It was so hard. I still have difficulties sometimes

I'm sorry it causes you suffering. I think many things people often say they wish they had, like a perfect memory or psychic powers, would neccesarily come with drawbacks. Until you have had to deal with it who's to say if it's a blessing or a curse?

There's are emerging therapies being given the green light. Drugs like ketamine that shut off consciousness are being explored. Psychedelics are being trialed all over. There are even electroshock therapies being used under anesthesia to treat illness. Maybe as these therapies gain better recognition a wider range of conditions will be trialed for treatment.

I don't think hypnosis is a true answer, more tricking your brain into something. I wonder how effective that kind of programming would even be on you. You may want to look into trials that are being run on depression and PTSD, those seem to be the main focus of these rediscovered treatments. Unfortunately things that have low incidence often don't get much attention from the medical community and you're left to your own efforts.

I have had the ability to remember things that were important to me from the time I was a teenager. Before I learned to filter what I only wanted to remember it was kind of a pain. It took me quite a few years to figure out how to do that. It is now automatic for me to filter out making long term memories out of things. I can't even explain how I did it, but know for full memories to come back I have to find the trigger.

It used to suck to remember everything and I bet it drives you nuts. It was really hard having a conversation with people when I was young....too much detail in what I was saying...it bored people or made them feel intimidated...I still have that problem but I can still shut it off because people lose interest in things if you go overboard unless they are really interested in the field you are talking about.

I remember doing a painting, and the art teacher was talking to me, and I knew the answer, but was in a total non-verbal mode and couldn't talk. Only for a few seconds, but it was quite profound to me.

As for remembering things, I only have a reasonable memory, but I have a 'genius-level' forgettery, which overrides that!

LOL

So... How far back does your memory go?

Do you remember being inside your mother womb? The birth process? Your moment of consciousness?

I've heard cells can carry memories... Do you remember dividing?

Even if memory is enhanced or not, it is still choice to exist in those memories rather than the present. Existing in those memories is akin to dreaming. Simply wake up when you realize you slipped into that dream state. A book called the power of now is good start to empowering the now.

This is an interesting thread, and thanks. I wonder if using marijuana would allow you to forget better. They say that the ability to 'forget' is just as important as the ability to remember. I am aware that marijuana use has been associated with various memory effects. Here is a link to just one article about this phenomenon :

sensiseeds.com...
