Wonder what the effective range is considering the plane vibration in flight. Small movements on plane may yield large deviation say a mile off

That is a good question, however if they can gyroscopicly stabilize a gun barrel on a battle ship or a tank while moving , I figure on an aircraft it would be even easier. My understanding is the problems with a laser is more to do with atmospheric conditions than anything else. They have come a long way with power supply and the intensity of the beam if reports are correct.

I would think it would have active adaptive optics that would compensate for that.

The funny thing about it is that it only takes a smoke or fog screen to make it ineffective. The easiest protection is just chrome. Shiny mirror like chrome.

Considering the YAL-1A was able to shoot down a boosting missile, at longer ranges than this will see, I’d say the vibration problem has been pretty much solved. The range won’t be that great, but it will be useful. It’s only designed to shoot down SAMs and probably AAMs, so it doesn’t need a lot of range.

Not really. It will still burn through chrome and other mirrored surfaces. And you’re not going to have a missile capable of releasing any kind of fog.

I took this as a countermeasure to blind incoming air to air or graound to air missles whcih threaten the fighter.

Not sure about enemy aircraft though

It could, in theory, be used against aircraft. The range limit is going to make that harder though.

Possible to roast the other pilots eyes and blind them as well.

Deployed in 2025 in Eastern France to push back the Non-NATO incursions......
