The Map of the Internet

I found this really cool site. I searched but didn't see a thread about it here on ATS.

The Internet Map

Like any other map, The Internet map is a scheme displaying objects’ relative position; but unlike real maps (e.g. the map of the Earth) or virtual maps (e.g. the map of Mordor), the objects shown on it are not aligned on a surface. Mathematically speaking, The Internet map is a bi-dimensional presentation of links between websites on the Internet. Every site is a circle on the map, and its size is determined by website traffic, the larger the amount of traffic, the bigger the circle. Users’ switching between websites forms links, and the stronger the link, the closer the websites tend to arrange themselves to each other.

So, anyone any suggestions for sites to look up on the map and see the connections?

That is interesting.

I find it interesting that when I type in abovetopsecret, one of the nearest neighbor on the map is nsa.gov.

my one question is why is wordpress and go.com the disney media portal all the way out on their own

What the yak ?

How does yahoo manage to be the 4th biggest.. who in the world uses Yahoo in 2022, I thought it died in the 90´s.

That is interesting. Apparantly there is a lot of traffic between the two. Who knew.

the map was last updated in 2011, statistics included.
all newer website are not even on it.

The map would look entirely different if it was updated again

I use yahoo (search) instead of Google, thinking about using a more private browser though. 👍🏻
