You would have been far better off becoming an active member and discussing things in the appropriate Forum, all you've done is piss people off.

I'm sure there was no ill will intended but the vast majority of us just want to continue talking bollocks to each other as and when we choose.

I got something in my spam file on e-mail about ATS but knew it was spam, in fact my spam filter knew it was spam. I don't remember the name of the sender, I read the e-mail without opening anything and glanced at the header address and knew it was crap.

I often scan the spam folder for something important that might have gone there, like info from the propane company and some mass mailing programs I am signed up for but always check the address of the sender.

I also got the email. It came with a mods name on it strangely enough, but I'm confident it was not him as I've spoken to him outside ATS. But I did play the puzzles that group posted, just like many of us did, and I'm thinking that's most likely how he got the addresses, as part of it was to send email.

I was going to ignore it, but apparently it wasn't just me he sent it too. I know I gave the guy who ran it some web design tips (via my email address he sent his spam to) and I wish I had not, but then he stole some material from my own site and I cut all ties with them. Just to be sure, I've checked my site and found no evidence of foul play there if anyone is wondering.

Reading through comments here, it appears that his emails are already being labeled by email services as spam, so that's a plus, lol. I'm just going to avoid strange links and emails. And while I know it's likely misinformation, I feel the need to ask. It says in the message that he got the emails from a mod. None of the mods here would be working with them, right?

He wrote a book on his topics that is for sale on Amazon, probably doing all of this for promotion. (in case you didn't already know)

That's the reason I titled the thread the way I did. He coyld be lying, but in the e-mail it does say that a mod gave him the info and he specifically references ATS.

But, I guess if he does have an issue with Djarums, and has Djarum's e-mail in the recipient list. He could be just trying to screw with him or something.

Hell, there really isn't any proof that's Djarum's e-mail.

I don't think that Djarums had anything to do with it. He actually asked me if my site could have been the leak, so I doubt it was him. But I am curious as to why his email was listed in it, if that is his email, which is a good point. I feel like accusing him would be like saying Trump sold us out to China, lol. Just not fitting the MO.

No offense to any of the mods, but I just think it's worth asking the question. Do you think anyone on the mod team could be either working with or are them?

Allow me to ask you a fair question, the mods with the least amount of time are in the ten year range of being mods here on ATS with access to such information. Some of the mods are closing in on twenty years. None of them have exhibited such behavior because simply put, they would not be mods if they did. We have removed staff for less reasons than that.

Most of the people receiving spam are getting it on email accounts not affiliated with ATS. And quite a few participated with using their email addresses receiving said email in conjunction with off site activity. Now it could be that one individual is pretending to be a whole quasi-religious order as part of weird con job as every single bit of the site revolves around investing in some sort of what might be some sort of cryptocurrency…or maybe things are as started in the solicitation email.

So the questions are…Which mods would you think are suspect to being rogue? And how the heck do they use ATS mod powers to gain access to information not given to ATS? I mean the ability to edit a post past the two (four?) hour window is pretty powerful. But it is not like we can make Kelloggs put toys back in cereal boxes again.

Yeah, I'm always slightly irritated when I have a thrwad open in the background for later and then later, after seeing a long stream of removed comments, finding out I missed someone(s) getting butthurt.

Ok, that makes sense. Reading the responses here, it does seem like it could be more than one source. And of course I don't suspect a specific mod or anything. I guess I just asked because the spammer said that was the case, but that's possibly some kind of psychological manipulation I suppose.
