Sunspot AR3038 is just to the north of the Suns equator and pointing directly at us , yesterday it was about the size of the Earth but in just 24 hours it has doubled in size , scientists believe the Sunspot will produce an M class flare , it could cause some interference but nothing bad .... however if it's an X class then we're all Doomed ;-)

BIG SUNSPOT ALERT: Yesterday, sunspot AR3038 was big. Today, it's enormous. The fast-growing sunspot has doubled in size in only 24 hours: movie. AR3038 has an unstable 'beta-gamma' magnetic field that habors energy for M-class solar flares, and it is directly facing Earth

Who's a big boy then ...

For something so hot the Sun is pretty cool.

Read this earlier today. Takes a long time to surface, but....

IT'S BIG! IT'S HOT! IT CAN KILL US ALL!
Dah dah dahh, haha!

Here Comes the Sunβ€”to End Civilization

Every so often, our star fires off a plasma bomb in a random direction. Our best hope the next time Earth is in the crosshairs? Capacitors.

I was going to say, how can I sleep thinking about this, Then I realised, quite easy on the dark side.

The second picture looks like a mandelbrot fractal.
I was thinking,if we got hit by a mega flare, something even bigger than the carrington event-are all our tech manufacturers certain that every lithium battery on the planet will not suddenly combust?

Imagine the mayhem if suddenly every phone tablet etc went up in smoke as the waves of charged plasma bathes the atmosphere.

That wired article also talks about satellites getting fried and potentially smashing into others.

Something our ancestors may have marvelled at as a great wonder in the skies in the shape of auroras could now cause serious damge to the modern world.
Thats a strange turn of events.

I looked at one of these sun monitors the other day and it looked like a huge face. I will see if I can find it.

Are we under dirigible attack again, or is it swamp gas?

Hopefully this "zit" won't pop until it's facing away from us.

"On 23 July 2012 a "Carrington-class" solar superstorm (solar flare, coronal mass ejection, solar EMP) was observed, but its trajectory narrowly missed Earth."

Just think a direct hit EMP big enough to shut us down without electronics everyone will be staring into space wondering how to get food .

This is "amusing" because I checked this AM on solarham and they had a big notice saying the SDO was offline due to a widespread power outage.

Updated solar imagery courtesy of the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) is currently unavailable due to a widespread power outage. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. "HMI and AIA data are temporarily unavailable. A widespread power outage has closed the Stanford campus that hosts the SDO Data Center." SDO Website

Notice - 06/22/2022 HMI and AIA data are temporarily unavailable. A widespread power outage has closed the Stanford campus that hosts the SDO Data Center.

Coincidence (probably) but weird timing nonetheless. Cue spooky doom music.

Satellites are one thing but as far as tech here on the surface we can replace anything that gets fried. Like an emp it wont be a forever event. Tech wont be lost for long.

That's awesome to think about.

Only one side though. The other side of the planet whomever it may be would be fine.

Man if i were the side that got hit I would be terrified that the other countries that didn't are about to attack me.

Please. We call them 'airships'.
