He was jolted awake.

The smell of searing flesh and burning hair rushed his nostrils.His muscles spasmed.

"Urrggh!'

Slowly the blurred room came into focus.

A cake. "Happy 70th Anniversary", a colorful sign proclaimed from above.

"Nononono!..NOOOOOooooo!!!!! He recognised her voice, much older now.

He tried to reach out to her but his arms were too weak.

"Mary Shelley", the driest of whispers barely escaping from his lips.

The room became an aperture and the spark faded amidst screams of anguish.

LOL this is very scary #, it implies that dude really was just trying to die and them nagging ass wimmins had to bring him back to life, again just to hear him say "whatever you want wimmins, yeah looks great etc" instead of a 70th anniversary it should have said "papers you need to sign."

Very clever, cool idea and well executed. I like how the reader is drawn into the protagonist's confusion and dawning awareness.
