I live in the UK. I was brought up on a council estate that was very violent. Caucasian people are violent too. It was so horrible and it ruined all my childhood. Now I live in a beautiful place by the ocean.

It is the environment mainly I believe. Inner cities divorce us from reality into too much a human construct that is very ill.

Totally agree. People are so packed in here in Britain there's going to get worse and need more space. You can take any people out to the national parks and they love it. People with a decent garden generally don't go out knifing others. They are too penned in to a closed but threatened space.

Didn't the post War2 designer of the standard council house lay out a minimum amount of space needed including garden / veg' patch for people not going mentally ill? council houses were built with loads of space, land too. Now we get these tiny flats often with no land or veg' patch, the designers think that the residents are going to stay sane? I don't think so yet it's all about the dosh these days and what's good for the human soul is ignored in modern Britain.

Stick these people in an environment where they travel around on tubes with again no space.

Throw in a hundred different cultures in a few square miles.

Is it any wonder sh!t happens every day like this?

Good luck with that. 70% of the UK's knife crimes/crisis are regular kitchen knifes.

About 45% of American households own guns. But that doesn't stop the crybabies from wanting to ban them. It wouldn't surprise me to find some of those morons in the streets protesting knives😅🤣😂

No, they are not going to ban knives.

But if I'm going to get attacked in a school, church, or supermarket, I'd rather it be by a guy with a knife than one with an AR-15 for obvious reasons.

Well this may be bad news for you, you are 65 times more likely to be stabbed to death than to get killed in a mass shooting.

So, among those "obvious reasons," you'd prefer to lie there, gasping for air as you bleed out, spending possibly several minutes desperately struggling to survive but knowing you are about to die, than hearing a sudden "bang" and everything going dark?

I never thought it was "obvious" that you had masochistic tendencies. To me dead is dead... let's not add in more pain.

I am curious about one thing: what if it were an "assault knife" that was also a "weapon of war"? Would that make a difference to you?

I don't think you'd even hear the bang would you? Depending on where it hits of course.

The thing i find hilarious about the UK is that most of what we would call the left here are shouting for a gun ban in the US while they go out of their way to pretend that this is not a problem in the UK. Of course that would look ridiculous to mention both in one post while trying to criticize the US's gun laws.

It is like the black on black crime/murders compared to the least amount people who actually get shot by the police (also black people). They ignore that as it interferes with their Role Play.

Right. And there are like 300 people a year being killed by rifles of ANY kind and 1,700 people a year being killed by KNIVES. But they protest the guns😏😅

No they can't.....The Second Amendment of the British Constitution states "the right of the people to keep and bear Knives, shall not be infringed".

The Knife Lobby in Britain is too Powerful and won't stand for it.

I'd imagine you might hear it... not sure you'd have time to realize what you heard...

Of course, like a knife, it depends on where you are hit/stabbed. I know one guy who had a confrontation with a jealous husband and his .38 special. Big ol' boy. They found him after the cops got there, curled up and whimpering behind an appliance on his back porch, with five .38 Special slugs in him.

He survived. No lasting injuries (except he doesn't fool around with married women as much).

On the other hand, get hit in the right spot with a little .22 rimfire and it's lights out, goodnight, bye-bye.

The UK has always been quite violent country, in places.
Its not all cucumber sandwiches and watching cricket on the village green.
Its not all Downton Abbey etc....far from it.

I've never revealed this on ATS, for various reasons, but I've been stabbed once, been slashed by a blade and glassed on the head.
I've had to face several other people trying their best to both stab and glass me.
I've been attacked by someone with a hammer and various other tools and implements.
One person once bit a lump out of my back.

I'm not trying to sound 'hard' or anything, just the brutal, harsh reality of part of my life.

And I have to say if guns were as common in the UK as they are in the US there is a very good chance I would have been killed.

I'm not going to comment on US gun control laws or The Second Amendment - that's a discussion for another time and place - other than to say that as I have stated on numerous occasions it would be absolute insanity to introduce UK style gun control laws in the US, absolute madness and it would result in carnage.

There are many things wrong in the UK, many injustices and inequalities.....and they need addressing as a matter of urgency.
There are many contributory factors to violence both here in the UK and elsewhere and to start addressing the real core issues requires a degree of openness and honesty that few seem willing or capable of doing.

But, and its a massive BUT....things are no where near as bad as many are portraying....most people go about their business without witnessing extreme violence or in fear of being stabbed or anything like that.
A lot of it is shear sensationalism drummed up to deflect away from other issues or to push one agenda or another.

If anything I'd say the UK is less violent now than at any time in my life.
But the world is a different place and attitudes have changed - most definitely not all for the best.
More crimes are reported than they used to be, how crimes are defined and categorised have changed.....sensitivities have changed.

Its also worth noting that we are currently experiencing a bit of a heatwave, notoriously a time when crime rates increase....Mad Dogs and Englishmen and all that.

Thanks for the post was hoping you would comment. There are so many variables involved here because we definitely are violent here in the US and it is definitely worse than when I was a kid and it wasn't great then. That said personally only had a handful of fights, most serious damage got knocked on the head with a beer bottle and needed a few stitches. It might have been rough for 70's suburban America but nowadays kids are getting killed not just mass shootings like the individual I hate this person and Im gonna kill them, they plan to kill them, it's not just cities its suburbia and rural America too.

One time I was at a conference with all of my co-workers from around the US and the UK, Australia. We got to talking and came up with who had been in an actual fistfight.

Out of 123 persons only 6 of us had been in a serious fistfight, and only 2 every were in any kind of fight where a knife appeared.

While we got some similarities we have a lot of differences too. Which may require different solutions.

That's the thing exactly. this situation is a prime example of how effective Media and Social Media is. They do not only have people worrying about the "Lesser" problem to say for a lack of a better word. They also have peoples brains wired as such that they actively ignore the actual numbers and thus proof of it all which is dangerous and has catastrophic results.
