Back in the late 60’s to early 70’s I remember some fish and chips franchise’s in the US, (way before Long John Silvers),
They were “H Salt fish and chips” and “Arthur Treachers fish and chips”.
Living in the Great Lakes area they had their share of local competition.
The price of fresh Great Lakes perch and walleye is outrageous right now.

I live in Florida and one of my favorite local restaurants offers an amazing lobster grilled cheese sandwich.

It normally retails for around $24. We went a month ago and it was $45.

Needles to say, I did not order it.

There was a place in Milwaukee that had really good battered fried cod with draft root beer in a frosted mug when we were there.

I wonder if it's still there and how much that costs now?

Europe kind of overfished the cod and when the English left by Brexit, they could not stop the fishing in their water as part of the Brexit agreement.

Expect Cod and Haddock to get more expensive yet, it has gone up around two to three bucks a pound around here in the USA too. I like cod but at the price it is now, I can get whole whitefish and filet them myself...the wife likes Cod or Whitefish. We also do some pollock, but that has also gone up about thirty three percent too...not cheap anymore around here. Salt codfish also jumped up around twenty percent.

I am having salt codfish and toast tomorrow morning for breakfast, I have it soaking overnight, I drain it then add more water and then simmer it below boiling for ten minutes and drain it and put in some butter and a little salt and pepper to taste...goes great with toast. I am mostly Finn, but I learned that from my father-in-law who was like twenty five percent cornish on his fathers side....

Find me something that hasn't gone up.

The rough equivalent here in the states was the basic burger. You could get some cheap burger and put it in something and stretch a pound.

We were a little upscale and went for 97/3 which is 97% lean, but lower priced had more fat in its percentage. These days, the price of the lean burger is such that we typically get to decide between lamb or veal and 97 lean. Prices are roughly comparable, so why not? If you're paying the same either way and you're going to spend the money ...

But the squeeze on the budget for a family that doesn't have the budget is going to be murder. Veal and lamb are luxury meat, not everyday family fare.
Ever try a slug burger?

From 2017 (some places may not have survived lock-down economically, not sure).

Its crazy the price of a fish supper now here in the UK £ 8-11 for a carry out meal but i am lucky enough to have family who own fishing boats and i can get what i want all i have to do is pick up the phone .

It is easy to make a fish supper if you get the batter right adding some beer is the key and most chippies are using Haddock now but some see that as a dirty bottom feeder , i actually sickened myself of crabs and lobsters i was eating that much sea food but i really am lucky with food as other members of my family are gamekeepers and everything is just a call away and a friend of a friend works in a butchers
