President Biden suggests razing Texas elementary school where 21 people were killed, state senator says

First off, I've been busy working and haven't read a whole lot about this most recent school shooting, but I know the main details....

Goofball Biden apparently wants to tear down the school and re-build a new school. I'm just curious how he thinks that's a good solution. That will do nothing substantial. Shouldn't he be more concerned with preventing the next school shooting? Because it WILL happen again. It may not be preventable, BUT there must be more reasonable actions that would be more helpful than re-building a new school in this one specific city.

Yeah, this happened, our hearts go out etc. etc.... but this guy should ALWAYS be looking forwards, not backwards. Nothing will change when your focus is on something that already happened. His focus should be on preventing it from happening again. Because as previously mentioned, it will happen again. It always does.

President Biden told a local lawmaker while visiting Uvalde on Sunday that the federal government may provide resources to raze Robb Elementary School, where 19 children and two teachers were shot and killed earlier this week.

"He said, 'I'm not going away. I'm going to bring you resources. We're going to look to raze that school, build a new one,'" state Sen. Roland Gutierrez, who represents Uvalde, told KSAT.

"I can't tell you how many little children that I've talked to that don't want to go into that building. They're just traumatized. They're just destroyed."

Different source, same crap...

President Joe Biden has said that he is considering demolishing the elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 young children and two teachers were shot and killed last week in one of the worst mass shootings in US history.

State Senator Roland Gutierrez told KSAT that the president promised to provide federal resources to potentially raze Robb Elementary School and build a new campus in the community left heartbroken by the senseless massacre.

It's to prevent traumatic experiences of having to go back into the building you almost died in. Not completely against it.

I can't stand Biden, as anyone on ATS very long is well aware.

However, this is not a bad idea.

The children are traumatized. The building a constant reminder.

This is not the first building that was torn down after a horrific event because of the trauma it causes survivors and the community.

Besides, it looks like it is an old school. Tear it down.

Rebuild on another site is the best thing to do.

Most places turn sites like that into memorial parks.

On this one issue I agree with Biden (gag, but true)

I agree with this. The children might be too traumatized to go back there.

Also maybe they can improve on any safety issues.

Here's my take.

If the citizens want to raze the school and build a new one, I completely understand. Thinks it's a great idea.

As for our President though, he ought to be saying we will support whatever wishes the community Uvalde decides.

Old senile Biden decreeing proclamations, and we have to take his ramblings seriously...

If I'm not mistaken this was done in the case of Sandy Hook.

If I was Texas I would just level the school and rebuild it myself. Surely Texas can spare the funds to do this. If you take money from Uncle Sam then you have to dance along with his tune. I can't possibly imagine that at least one hair-brain stipulation wouldn't be attached to any federal funding for a new school.

Stupid to destroy a perfectly good building just because something negative happened there. What a waste.

I can agree it's a waste, but if that's what they want to do its their tax dollars. Unless of course Joe foots the bill, then its MY tax dollars and I'm not okay with it.

Maybe if that town wasn't giving 40% of their budget to the police that protected the shooter from the parents for over an hour, they could easily afford better educational services.

Honestly, with Uvalde PD clearly not needing a $140 million budget, just reappropriate some of that money for a new school.

HITH does a county with 24,000 people need a 140 million dollar police budget? They are definitely not appropriating the appropriations properly

Unless Im looking at it wrong the whole budget for the city of Uvalde is 19 million.

still searching for the county budget but no way it's 140 million for the police

I can't argue against facts; it would seem the citizens of that city are not getting return on that level of tax investment in their PD. Not to paint with too broad a brush, as I'm sure there are some fine officers in that group, but on the organizational level, that PD isn't effectively allocating and managing their resources, so maybe a new school (with upgraded door locks and security apparatus) would be a better use of that money.

When did the feds suddenly become the tooth fairy and will build and demo schools?

1. Kids won't want to go there as it sits. Whether they are really bothered by what happened or not, the results will be the same.

2. Where will the teachers and students go while this school is demo'ed and rebuilt?

3. A new school needs proper building protections. BUT. Teachers or authorized people who prop open doors, just invite perps in. A new building simply won't stop a determined person with open access.

Rebuild from scratch and name it after the 21 who were killed there.
