Being a mercenary is illegal and a mercenary gets no protection that combatants get. For example they have no rights to become a pow.

He isn't a mercenary though , he and the others signed up to the Ukrainian military so they are legal combatants.
In a way they're like the Foreign legion , but in Ukraine.

Lets be honest here, all these foreign fighters/mercenaries aren't doing it to help Ukraine first. They are there because they love the combat being in a warzone.
Yes they are helping Ukraine too, but its the Adrenalin they are there for first and foremost.

Ever hear about the Spanish Civil War, the Foreign volunteers that travelled from the whole world to fight on BOTH Sides, the good guy's lost because the NAZI's provided the infamous condor squadron that flew Stuka dive bombers there but there were men from every nation in the free world on ALL sides of that conflict fighting for ideology and just for the freedom of the Spanish people.

How is this any different, free grown men making the decision to risk there lives to fight to save a nation from an aggressive invader, an invader that was condemned by over a hundred country's and supported by just four?.

Should we just lie down then when there is injustice and evil in the world and let it be, is it being an idiot to fight evil or is it being far more of an idiot to let evil win.

Remember this.

I think you mean the Spanish as they were the down fall of most of the indigenous people from the Americas. Stalin killed 50 to 60 million and that lack for the value of life has never really gone away from Russia, but I see you agree.

Oh good point.

Europeans who settled in North America (not even bothering to count what happened in south America) invaded a continent that already had up to 65 million people living in it, over hundred of years there descendants were nearly wiped out.


But.

In Russia a similar number of people were MURDERED by Stalin in just a few decades.

Of course Russia is no stranger to mass murder and ethnic cleansing going back through it's entire history in fact.

A forgotten fact about North America is that many of the settlers there were central and eastern European including large numbers of Russians though the largest contingent were actually German, the reason they speak English is because of the already established colony's and the fact it was even then the international language of trade in much of the world.

Yet so many tend to think of the US as being English, in fact it is about as many French in the US as English, nearly as many Dutch and huge numbers of Scandinavians, Irish (I'll put the Scot's in with the English for this though if we subdivide them even less English), and the aforementioned eastern and central European's including Russians and Ukrainians, Poles, Czech's etc.

So arguably despite the fact we must not forget the horrors visited upon the already native people's the US has far, far less blood on it's hands than the likes of Russia or China for example and in there case most of that blood is there own people and native ethnic minority's.

Not to mention disease is what killed a vast majority.

The Europeans had been living in cities with poor sanitation. That lead to new illnesses that many built an immunity to over time. The native Americans had never come into contact with such contagions, and had no natural defense. So it swept through them at alarming rates.

That's not to justify any of the actions by them. But it does provide context.

I also don't think it's a good analogy for today's lens as the world was far different back then. We were all much more savage IMO.

Let me remind you we are battle hardened for over 20 years of constant combat

If the west WERE to have to go to war w Russia we would flatten you with a quickness and brutality you've never seen before

Your forces are fighting with old equipment and gear and a very large portion are not experienced and/or conscripted

Your best bet is to hope we DONT get involved

Mao sat back and watched Stalin do his thing and thought boy that will work here in China too. The only reason Mao killed more like a 100 million+ is because there were more Chinese to kill than Stalin had Russians to kill. We are also not talking 1850 or 1700 here either...

At it's height during the so called cultural revolution in which millions dies of starvation and famine in China the Communist party official's used to host so called flesh banquettes during which unfortunate Chinese citizens were selected to serve as the MEAT of the feast and were murdered, cooked and eaten by the communists.

Mao also suffered syphilis and due to the instructions of his Doctor a traditional Chinese medicine man having sex with your virgins was seen as a treatment so bus loads of young Chinese girls literally children would be shipped in from villages to be raped by the Chinese leader, he apparently enjoyed there scream's according to some account's.

Not sure about the true figure for the loss of life due to MAO and his bandit's in charge but it is obvious that it was a massive loss of life at least equal to and probably overtaking that from Stalin's purges.

I went to the killing fields back in the early 80s. They turned a school into a torture place with zero purpose but to torture people to death using the kids of the school to do it. We still see a lack of the value of life today in these countries, but at least there are Russians protesting it all.

And theyve proven they CANT do that, and we see that with the hard time they are having with Ukraine, by the way they talked they should have been able to go in and do what they wanted with Ukraine within a few weeks
