There are already enough gun laws and restrictions currently on the books, so to speak in nearly every state and on the Fed level that we don't need more damn laws. These type incidents, like yesterday, are not about guns, guns laws, etc. They are more about the state of society and culture in this country.

I agree with you.

We need to bring back insane asylums for people who are too troubled for the general population. By all accounts this monster had threatened to do this a year ago. He should have been sent to an asylum, evaluated and detained. At the very least it would have put the asylum on his record and removed his ability to purchase the rifles.

There should also be armed security - with long guns - at all schools. There only job should be to guard the secured entrance and respond immediately to any active shooters / attackers. These people should understand that in that situation they are there to engage and neutralize the threat. Not to contain and 'wait for it to be safe to engage' - while little kids bleed out or get shot.

The police 'contained' the shooter to a classroom where he was left unmolested to murder all of those innocent children. They did this because they were afraid of taking return fire and being harmed or killed. This is disgraceful.

It should be understood that when presented with a situation like this - the only correct course of action is to engage until the threat is neutralized.

Taking away the general populations ability to defend themselves over something like this is absurd. Look at Chicago and all the gun crime there - do those laws help the law abiding population or embolden the criminals? Seems to me that city has major gun crime - how is that or any other such city an example of effective laws? It is the very definition of ineffective law. Pushing those same laws on a wider swath of the population or enhancing those laws will not change how ineffective they are.

This leaves us with only one option.. embrace the 2nd. Arm, train and normalize firearms in society. You look at statistics of areas where the 2a is embraced and there are far fewer gun crimes overall.
