New corona rules are on the way in the Australian state of South Australia. These will replace the current emergency law, Prime Minister Peter Malinauskas said. They are intended to be permanently incorporated into the Public Health Act. Such a permanent law is also being prepared in the Netherlands. The emergency law was responsible for, among other things, mandatory quarantine and mouth caps. Much opposition to the bill is expected in the upper house.
The Law Society says the new law gives the governor, Frances Adamson, extraordinary permanent powers. Leaked documents have reportedly revealed that the Liberal Party is concerned about severe penalties for violating corona rules: up to $70,000 and two years in prison. The new rules are expected to take effect on June 30.
