If there is something that looks unusual, then even if we don't find other intelligent life signs, we are still likely to find some new science that we aren't seeing elsewhere.

We'll quickly find that life is everywhere but it will be something like Exo-Algae, or not exactly life you would send a generational ship full of people to go on a 1000 year voyage to look at.

The Webb is Gen 0.5, and the Webb will lead to the following which should be considered generation 1.

The LUVOIR will pave the path the 2nd generation.

The LUVOIR will sense signs of life but not confirm it, and will enable us to develop instrumentation hardware & software Aglos that will allow us to build the 2nd generation that will find a handful of planets that have traces of basic life like Algae.

2nd generation will have more hints of life but we'll need the 3rd generation to nail a discovery.

3rd generation find a handful of plants that have life.

4th gen is where we would really have things refined, and so discoveries of life will common as the detection of gravitational waves. It will all be boring basic life forms.

If finding life as a matter of throwing cash at scientist,engineers,and software developers then NVIDIA would be rolling out the RTX 7000 series this fall instead of the 4000 series.

I'm optimistic about finding life but i'm conservative with my views toward the technological requirements that are needed to seek it out in the first place.

Here's hoping the system doesn't go nova soon... or disappear one day in a couple of decades, lending support to the "Dark Forest" hypothesis that solves the Fermi Paradox.

Liu Cixin, a sci-fi author, explains it as:

"There is life everywhere in the galaxy, but owing to exponential growth and limited resources, the incentive is very high for each galactic civilization to preemptively kill any others. The only thing stopping this is the lack of knowledge of others' locations, explaining the Fermi paradox..."

Correct or not, it's not a bad idea to keep ourselves quiet until we know more.

I guess super smart other beings didn't figure putting the message on repeat would be a useful tool considering the message is traversing oceans of time and space with obsticles they cant predict and all that jazz. Or its a malfunction in hairless pink ape machines.

Wow signal could have been anything, including the last transmission of a planet that nuked itself out of existence. Or a warning signal like the movie Aliens, stay away.

Yeah! Or maybe even a scan. Something placed out there to scan and see what it can transmit to or "hit" almost like radar but not.

Fiscally…. I don’t see the upside in studying anything beyond our own solar system. Our own solar system is reachable within our present development of space transportation. Enterprises such as mineral mining…..and or settlement is possible.

However, any studies beyond our solar system, except for the studies of transiting interstellar bodies that may pose a collision threat to earth, should not be studied.

Anything else is a waist of money in my opinion. The discovery of water, or possibly habitable planets, or radio signals, will do nothing for anybody’s present life on earth.

Don’t get me completely wrong…..I’ve been a card carrying member of The Planetary Society since early 1990’s…..nice magazines with nice pictures….but that’s the extent of it. Anything beyond our solar system is of no interest.

Spending funds on trying to communicate outside our solar system is a futile waist of time…..emphasis on “time”. I wholly agree that because of the distances in “time” are involved….signals to and from our planet would be dead on arrival. Not to mention the attempt of either the sender or receiver to decipher the meaning and translations of the signals. I don’t agree that the common language for all things in space….is mathematical or musical, let alone a multitude of textural symbology.

I think, if we want to communicate with extraterrestrials, perhaps the funds would be better spent trying to communicate with extraterrestrials all ready said to be here (or near earth) living and or visiting.

Once we can find and establish communication with what’s already here (or near earth)…then through cooperation and exchange…we here on earth, may be given the technology to communicate with the home planets of the same species that are already here (or near earth). Perhaps, their form of interstellar communication, is something we humans have never thought to do, perhaps being something that our minds have not had the capacity to fathom.

Let’s stop waisting funds and think of more practical efficiency that makes more logical sense.

Here’s a rhetorical example……..it is said that crop circles are for the most part, of unknown non-human communications. If that’s so…..then why have we not yet deciphered what this symbolic language is saying?

If we humans cannot figure this language out locally, here on earth…..then how can there be an expectation that we could decipher radio signals from space?

Crop Circles, which are Pictographs, are one of the oldest forms of communication….Yet we don’t have a Rosetta solution yet.

Personally, as much as I, among multitudes of humans, are very anxious for confirmation of extraterrestrial life, I lean more toward caution, and have a tendency to follow the lead of infividuals much smarter than I am.

One good example, (besides, Enrico Fermi, Sagan, among others) would be late brilliant astronomer and theoretician Stephen Hawking, who essentially said:

QUIET! ...keep it down!

...Hawking cautioned us against trying to actively call upon alien civilizations that might be out there.

More than 10 years ago, he told the Discovery Channel, and others since, that aliens might simply raid Earth for resources and then move on to other easy targets. What could they want from us? Gold? Water? DNA? We have LOTS of riches here.

"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," Hawking said.

"We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet."




ANY alien species that makes it all the way to Earth will be exponentially ahead of humans in every aspect: technically, militarily, industrially. Until we have a better idea about what may be "out there", it may be more wise to maintain a lower profile.

Otherwise, we may be doing the equivalent of broadcasting out a gilded invitation to come and rape us and our beautiful jewel of a resource-rich planet into oblivion - or worse. Hawking's warning could be analogous to countless examples in our own human conquests of each other throughout history. Why would we expect aliens to behave differently? They're not going to come all the way out here to the edge of the galaxy to just say "Hello".

If we call for them, and they show up - it may be too late to say, "oops"...

It's very hard to get foxes out of the hen house once they found an easy way in...

As lack of luck would have it…….we call out to aliens that are not very hospitable, and when the come, the aliens already here don’t like the newer aliens that arrive…..so then, earth and the space around it, including the moon…..becomes a battlefield.

We earthling become sittings ducks for using spears and bows in comparison.

I’m almost sure this scenario played out in the movies 😉 except this time it will be for real.

I’m going to leap with an assumption that extraterrestrials have hands comprising of a palm with an amount of digits and an opposing digit for a grasping function.

The simplest form of communication face to face, “can start with” hand gestures (not like Spock)(not like Close Encounters 3rd kind)(not solely the middle digit)…..it would be imo, hand open, palm and digits facing up ✋🏼 with a smile 👨🏼‍🦱…..then continuing to smile 👨🏼‍🦱, extend the hand forward to a handshaking position 🫱🏼 Then hopefully a handshake will result 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽 ……….these are basic forms of communication when you don’t know each others vocal language.

Now of course, they may have there own hand gestures for greeting…….but when in Rome, do as the Roman’s do.

You could be right. They always had been here and who knows there had been a war in space.
They know but wouldn't let anyone else know in the world.

I doubt about the human, grey alien species that had been claimed by some however.

Consider the wow signal a computer hiccup

Consider that the governments all across the world know about the phenomenon but are starkly pissed and afraid because they know that the phenomenon has intelligence. The things witnessed are not nuts and bolts technology. The fact they move in ways so fast that by our standards of measurement they move so fast we shouldn’t be able to see them. They move in a way that seems to come into and out of our observation of reality. Whatever they are relegate is the same way we relegate an ant hill.

What we can see with the naked eye is narrow in scope.

Let’s look at what we can’t see with our naked eyes, that our science discovered and named and says exists.



With the improved science of optics and image capture and processing….we have devices to see things using IR (infrared band) and Thermal (also infrared band) normally invisible to the naked eye.

If I missed a device that can see in any other band of the spectrum (not including the visible band)…….what device is it?

So, no one can say for sure…..that I have read or heard from ……that Aliens can’t exist in those other spectrum bands invisible to the naked eye. So then what if it’s possible?

I’ve always thought to myself, that Aliens can be seen in the sky’s as often and in numbers, as airlines fly. We just don’t have the right optics spectrum band devices (at the consumer level) in which to see them as often.

Remember Predators II? …… the Alien was able to go through bands of the spectrum until the humans hunting him were visible.



Or those glasses from They Live……

But you see, it’s technology, devices, similar to that, that need to be developed so that the regular consumer can put them over their eyes and be able to see the unseen.

Imo, it’s all about the optics technology….
