Retired Colonel Mikhail Khodarenok was a guest last night on Russian state TV's 60 Minutes talk show where he decided to give his opinion of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine , it made for interesting viewing no doubt as this guest wasn't running to the script.

"The biggest problem with [Russia's] military and political situation," he continued, "is that we are in total political isolation and the whole world is against us, even if we don't want to admit it. We need to resolve this situation.

"The situation cannot be considered normal when against us, there is a coalition of 42 countries and when our resources, military-political and military-technical, are limited."

He should probably stay away from open windows, underwear, and drinking tea for the foreseeable future.

This is what happens when a micromanaging nitwit decides to play general. It's unfortunate for him that there hasn't been a similar historical instance of say, a megalomaniacal militarily-inept cretin moving troops around at a granular level because they would have made funny meme videos about this person if they were real.

I bet you did Nazi that coming.

He could have added "except China, of course", and didn't bother, apparently, which shows that he was out to make a case.

They have an uneasy relationship with China as well. Likely even more uneasy after they've been watching this inept military display. If Russia and NATO engage in direct conflict, I wouldn't be surprised if Papa Xi decides to occupy eastern Russia rather than remain allied with them.

Only China aren't really bosom buddies with Russia are they.
Their practical help has been almost non-existent and I'd be amazed if they weren't at least a tadge bit alarmed with Putin's threats to start tossing a few nukes around here and there.

They'll be happy with it becoming a relatively long, drawn out war of attrition.

And as has been suggested, don't be surprised if they have their eyes on areas in eastern Russia.

China has no ideological or cultural ties to Russia and certainly won't feel beholden to them.

Any assistance from China would require giving some land back, in the far East.

Yes, China understands better than America the secret of winning at three-sided diplomacy. That is, don't pick fights with both the other two parties, don't be the "one" against whom the other two are combining. If they're really feeling cheeky, they might offer themselves as "honest brokers" to arrange a settlement betwen the two sides.

But my first comment was valid to the extent that China is not actively working to defeat the Russians on the Ukrainian front.

You're right, they aren't actively against Russia....at present.

China plays the long game and as I've said before here on ATS China will only do what China thinks is best for China.
No other considerations at all.

Personally, I think at present China would be happy to see a war of attrition with no side getting the upper hand.....but a continuous drain on time, men and resources, for all concerned.
They'll drip feed supplies, but just enough.

They will however be right at the front of the queue when it comes to rebuilding Ukraine when this conflict finally does end.

This may be serious stuff now that these two countries are joining NATO.

Serious like nuclear war folks.

It's certainly close, and amazingly we haven't as a species learned our lesson.

They say only 100 of these nuclear bombs can destroy this planet along with all life

And they have 14000 of them!

We as a species are deaf, dumb, and blind.

oh calm down, whats the worst that can happen, Nuclear winter, 95% of the population dying, and most the planet not being habitable for 50k years, while life spans are reduced to 20 years or less. Come on man, get it together, there are worse things in life than that, like melted chocolate in a hot car, or when you step on a sharp rock barefoot, oh and don't forget the evil lego in the middle of the night..... HELL ON EARTH..... just saying, no need to be so dramatic

Putin obviously thinks it's a game of "Command & Conquer".

Thing is that's dangerous in as much as it is stupid and silly.

After 20 years of protecting pedophiles and poppy farmers, it was time to go.
The how was unimportant.
The credit goes to old Joe for pulling us out, he had the cojones to do it, not talk about it.
The Afghans didn't have the whole world against them, just the Taliban.
And they didn't have the guts to stand up for their own country.
