California police responding to shooting at Laguna Woods church

The insanity continues today ...

This seems pretty new with early reports saying they've detained the shooter and a weapon and there are multiple people being transported to hospitals for treatment.

NBC has it up.

They have a little more about the community. The area is a retirement community with a population mostly 55 and up. So most of these victims are likely older adults. There are a number of churches in the area too also likely for that reason.

ABC says 1 dead, 5 wounded.

I still don't see anything from CNN.

Four were critically hurt and one person suffered minor injuries from the shooting inside the Geneva Presbyterian Church, the Orange County Sheriff's Office tweeted. All victims are adults, the sheriff's office said.

It's up on Fox but not CNN , I'm guessing that has something to do with the shooters identity.

They don't currently have much new info except some street closures which matter if you are in the area.

It contains a CBS LA broadcast that says that of the injured, all are critical except one who received minor injuries.

They give a little more on the church - Geneva Presbyterian. It bills itself as a welcoming and inclusive community. So it sounds like a more progressive congregation which isn't surprising in California.

Saw the feds were all over buffalo wonder if the same response will occur here.

Though either way still a lot of mentally ill people in the world, and nobody actually looks to help them just medicate them.

Their numbers are in the pits and falling .

Every source says ATF and other similar agencies were en route.

P J reporting that this was a Taiwanese congregation.

According to reports on Twitter, Geneva Presbyterian hosts a Taiwanese church, and the shooting took place during a lunch meeting of the Taiwanese congregation.

A law enforcement source has informed the LA Times that the suspect is a 68-year-old Asian man from Las Vegas and the victims are mostly Taiwanese/Asian descent.

New Twitchy Update

Apparently, congregants subdued the assailant by hogtying him with extension cords! They rock. And at this time, the motive for the shooting is under investigation. It is unknown if the shooter had any ties to the church or if hatred played any part (hate crime of some sort).
