After nearly 12 years since the first film the Blue people return , can't say I was a fan of the first film and judging by the trailer and blurb won't be a fan of this one but it does look pretty so for fans of the original here's the sequel.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure

Avatar has to be one of the most overrated movies in history.
It was literally dances with wolves in space.

I agree it was way overrated .

I remember hearing stories about people killing themselves trying to become Avatars.

I thought the movie was decent as long you could get past the benevolent natives in touch with Gaia trope.

Urgh. What a waste of talented artists. It looks beautiful, but the premise and the story of the original was really lackluster. It's all been done before. We really don't need a sequel to that generic tribal CGI fest. And ol' J-dawg wrote like three sequels? Lord have mercy.

And to think he once directed Aliens and Terminator 2.

I force finished watching the first one.
And ya it was okay, but I wasnt like "Omg Avatar is so epic, we need 30 sequels, 9 prequals and 3 tv spin offs... NOW!!!"

I dont even remember what it was about. And Sci-fi is my favorite movie genre.

I guess its good for fans.
Ill probably never see it, unless its on the movie channel one day while im up at work.

I would had been over the moon if it was a new Aliens movie coming out.

The most expensive anime of all time and now thanks to the likes of Unreal engine 5 the technology to create even better looking computer generated movies is now in the hands of youtubers.

And I agree that the first movie was over rated, it was mildly entertaining if you took it for what it was Pocahontas in space.

Sad Story Pocahontas a beautiful young woman married to an English man and dying of pneumonia or some other disease so far from her home and ancestors, somehow I think her life was probably very far indeed from the fairy tale we hear about today.

But she will forever be a Brit now as well as a native American princess and her story is also part of our history.

I loved the first one. Inserting a human consciousness into an alien body and interacting with the aliens physically. Cool stuff. The love story was strong and I still love a good love story.

The theme of human imperialism as an offshoot of nationalistic imperialism was nicely drawn and the choice of the commander of the human army was over the top ''let's hate the bad buy'' stuff.

The fantasy of the world spiritual body was just that, fantasy, but any real lover of fantasy could easily go with it.

The visuals were stunning and engulfing.

All of that and it at times came really close to the ''schlock'' boundary.

As a stand alone movie I thought it was great. But a sequel? Twelve years in production? There is nowhere to go from the original other than over that boundary into compete SCHLOCK.

So nope for me. However my wife will insist so, there ya have it folks. I will however, insist that we go in the later afternoon so that the popcorn isn't left over from the night before.

First time around I saw it was in 3D at the movies. I always considered 3D back then to be a gimmick of no real value. But alas my friends wanted to see it in 3D. Only meaningful 3D effect it had was when one of the blue balls kicked back some dirt in your eyes in one scene. Rest of the 3D BS just detracted from the experience. Was bored out of my mind during the entire movie

Years later I watched it again, without any 3D nonsense. It's a decent movie, but it's just the standard tropes and nothing special aside from the visuals. Dialogue is at a 5th grade level at best. And now we're getting another four!? movies?

If you can write a coherent sentence on ATS, you can sure as hell write a screenplay.

Looks about the same as the first movie. I know it's a teaser, but I didn't see anything "groundbreaking". I'm a huge fan of Cameron though, so I will probably go see it.

I'd much rather he devote some time to remaster "The Abyss" and "True Lies" for 4k bluray.

I feel like they’re setting up for a repeated story on this one… but we’ll see.

Yeah I heard Rush or Hannity say that A bunch of times.
Then I heard it repeated as nauseum over and over again.

The movie had a decent story , but the real reason it was number one for so long is the amazing visuals.

Like all the marvel flicks, which are cool but not really anywhere near reality. It’s about the experience and the stunning visuals. The story lines are from…comic books.

I probably could have watched the original Avatar with no sound just to watch all the amazing art go by on the screen.

This all reminds me of my childhood fantasy of keeping Sea Monkeys.

OK, nowadays we know they're brine shrimp, but they looked so magical in comic books when I was a kid.
