Hello,

Is there a reason as to why there is no formatting for punctuation when the title of a thread is displayed?

It's only once you enter the thread can you see the punctuation in the thread title.

I've discovered that the character - is one of the exceptions, so I keep using it to reduce the ambiguities.

What do you mean? I can see punctuation on the titles in the thread's lists.

It happens when the threads are listed under the "recent" main page.

OP is right about the Recent Posts page. The absence of quotation marks is particularly confusing. This is a long-standing matter.

Thanks, gkskg and DISRAELI!

I rarely look at that page, I wasn't aware of that specific problem.

I don't know what good punctation would do when the meaning of they're, their, and there, is lost on so many.

Also, most Special symbols &@%£$€(), etc., aren't displayed either unless you open the post.

This has been a thing now for years. As well as the search function not functioning, and the message icon not lighting up anymore when receiving u2u's. These things were addressed long ago with the basic answer being, "we can't fix it so it is what it is".

IIRC, only "." and "-" are allowed in titles.
Without the " marks or course, they won't show.
Also, images from mobile are not allowed.

I cannot remember why they were disallowed. Probably some security/glitch issue.

Actually, IIRC as far as the envelope lighting up:
It had to be disabled to stop the lags that happened every hour.
It was to correct a problem related to the massive size of the database.

And, unless there is a rebuild, the envelope will not function again. AFAIK.

FWIW, search never worked all that well on 5.3. JMHO.

There's a thread here in BBQ with a solution or two.

Did you see it?

Thank you for raising this issue, it has been a pet peeve of mine for several years. I like to use punctuation when composing thread titles, but often the challenge is to do so without creating a title that reads like a kindergarten effort once the punctuation has been removed in the formatting for the 'recent threads' & other sub groupings of forum threads, such as 'new topics', etc.

Staff, we know it's only a minor thing, but it would be much appreciated if we could utilise punctuation without worrying how it will look in a grouping of threads on the boards.

Many thanks.

FITO.
