Stop it by escalating it?

It's fairly obvious by now that Russia's military isn't what propaganda would have us believe. So escalation would spell defeat for Russia in a conventional war...what does that leave??

I'll give you a hint--it involves mushroom clouds in various sizes.

Thank you, but no. I'll give that a very hard pass.

In both those cases Russia was invaded, they weren't the invader. There's a bit of difference in the mind set.

In both cases, ego's wrote checks that their armies couldn't cash.

I agree that NATO should go all in, even carry out attacks on Russia itself.
But I do not think they should do that now, we should give them a 60 day deadline to leave Ukraine before we bring it.
And yes they would be crushed pretty quickly by NATO, and no matter what Putin does next.. will be his downfall.

There comes a point when a bully has to be stopped -- I think we're at that point.

Right on... 👍

Yeah, those damn bully leftists need to stop supporting Ukrainian Nazis 卐... they have pushed Russia to police their neighbor's backyard.

Yeah...

I somehow doubt that we've ever rebuilt after a Global Thermo-nuclear War...??

As for it being stopped, Finland is going to join NATO--almost assuredly. Poland already is a member, and the Baltic states. That's going to, at the very least, give Vlad the Mediocre a moment of pause. By now, he knows he can't beat NATO in a straight up fight--so his only recourse to "winning", if you want to call it that, is releasing the Rocket Forces, or whatever they're called these days.

Thanks, but I've plans for my life that don't involve a nuclear winter, or a death from radiation poisoning.

I did say if there was any world left.

I'll take my chances (and everyone else's) to move Forward.

I doubt Russian oligarchs support Putin nuking the world.

Time for them to stand up.

How charitable of you.

It's really disgusting how liberals always become the things they claim to hate.

On the streets that 'come at me bro I'm crazy' attitude probably works. In politics where you're not only responsible for your own heini getting kicked it's...ahem... difficult.
Though I understand it. Totally. He pi#s me off too.

But seeing as many of our vocal discussion partners from Russia pointed out not entirely unjustified that it's difficult to act convincingly if you have to admit a certain hypocrisy and maybe indeed NATO isn't entirely innocent.
Because I mean: Russians aren't stupid, they know we the West are dangerous, so I don't believe it's arrogance or stupidity they move forward this aggressively, but true and honest desperation.
Alas I can't figure out what that reason might be and even if they'd tell me personally I wouldn't believe a word.

Sorry I didn't have a strong train of thought going into this post and lost it midway completely.
I think the way forward is escalation I don't see another way to resolve this.
Not even removing Putin will make any difference, he's just symptom of a world view that's very mysterious and incomprehendable to me, but is shared apparently by many folks.
It's part and parcel of that divide I think where one side and the other live in different noospheres where we don't agree anymore what's true or not, what's important or where to go from here.

I don't know but I'd say wanting it is wrong, to not prepare for it is stupid.

NATO troops are already there. A fair number of them are holed up in Mariupol at Azovstahl, under seige. They will probably die there.

I doubt that actual NATO troops are in Ukraine fighting.

Maybe they're on the peripheral training, but that would be in the west and more likely in NATO countries training Ukrainians there, like Poland

Times have changed somewhat.

Putting missiles near a foreign border (which will reach the capital in a few minutes) is already, in a sense, an attack.

To create biological objects on foreign territory that study the reaction of the body of Russian people to various diseases is also a kind of attack.

To create numerous NGOs on the territory of Russia is also a type of attack.

Notice Russia hasn't spoken a word of that in over a month. That was just throwing s### at the wall to see if it would stick, and it has with some.

I'm not a warhawk for Ukraine. I know better, and realize the western media is running a campaign right now. But Russia is doing the same thing.

This is a disinformation war.

Agree.

Negotiations were obviously not on Putin's table.

For whatever reason (illness, ego, etc) -- he went for the "land grab" -- and got major resistance.

An invasion like this in modern times? Uncalled for and stupid.

He definitely wants the trade ports. And is using bullying tactics to get them.

When Donald Trump spoke about Sh!thole Countries, Ukraine was right on top of the list.

Well here's your parachute and here's your gun - go sacrifice your life to protect these worthless gangsters who wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.

Remember: A two-bit comedian named Zelensky is worth nearly a Billion US dollars. What could he have EVER done that was worth a Billion dollars?

Not having a nuclear war.

That doesn't bother me. If its gonna happen, its gonna happen.

At some point -- threats need to be stopped.

If there's any world left -- we'll rebuild -- as has been done before.

I feel we're (world) is at a turning point. Go Forward!

Do you know how many people felt the exact same way about COVID, and it affected a chiton more people than this special military operation in Ukraine

as for Putin's threats they are pretty hollow, it's all he has got. It's virtually nothing he isn't going to go nuclear or attack a NATO nation. All he is gonna do is bluster about.

Oh, thank you so very much for wanting to gamble with my life, and those of so many others--quite literally hundreds of millions of people. Sorry, but the Ukraine isn't worth that much.

Pause it when you get to the spot where that shadow of a little girl jumping rope, probably with a best friend, innocence personified...gone in a flash of searing heat. Did she feel any pain? Catch the flash out of the corner of her eye, just prior??

Before that picture, a man and his ladder--I'm guessing he was doing his job, or maybe it was his home, and he's going to clean the gutters, or something of the sort...gone.

That shadow of an old man with a cane. I'd guess, probably, about your age. Maybe he was going to visit his grand-children...for lunch, or just to say hi...gone, in an instant of atomic fire.

...and you'd risk that happening to your grand kids? Just to show Putin how big your metaphorical balls are??

All of you who are advocating going to war with Russia...take good long look around you. Walk by a schoolyard, watch the kids play, maybe there's a little girl, and her bestie, skipping rope next to the school building--now picture her shadow seared into the wall...what a wonderful legacy for her to leave behind--because that's all she'll have left behind. All so you all can show just how brave you are.

Ummm...why would Russia launch nukes...when they can launch hyper sonic kinetics...with the same impact radius...without the radiation...

You're saying hypersonic missiles--without a warhead--can cause as much damage as a strategic-yield nuclear weapon?

I'd love to know where you heard that because that doesn't sound right.

Ummm..This scenario...explains the theory...

More than that, when the rod hits, the explosion would be on par with the magnitude of a ground-penetrating nuclear weapon – but with no fallout.

That's the basic idea...

I've had enough of this now... I'm fed up with being constantly threatened with Nuclear attacks by a despot dictator who runs a country with an economy no bigger than Florida....

Who are we talking about this time? Russia? China? North Korea? Iran? Syria? Iraq? Afghanistan? Taliban? Al Queda? Some other country or terrorist group? It seems like we hear this roughly every 18 months with a different target.

How about we just put an end to all of this once and for all and just launch all of our nukes. It seems like the whole world is only weeks away from launching nukes at us anyway.
