The Metropolitan Police Department said it received reports of shots fired in the 4100 block of Connecticut Avenue NW. Social media users reported hearing heavy gunfire in the area

Quite far from the White House or any capital buildings. From what I can find it’s by DC University. I’m more interested with ATF being involved so quickly.

Still breaking as usual so not much info. We seem to be getting a lot of high profile shootings lately. Straight to MSM and government enforcement agencies. Thoughts?

Authorities said the victims were two men and an underage girl.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) said on Twitter that it is also responding to the shooting to assist local authorities. Uniformed Secret Service personnel are also helping the MPD, it said.

Secret Service and all. Little much? Just getting up so can only half form opinions

Curious why SS is involved when they state:

Anthony Guglielmi, the chief of communications for the U.S. Secret Service, said the shooting had "no impact to Secret Service protectees."

Article updated with a location update.

The shooting occurred near several embassies in the Van Ness area, including embassies for China, Pakistan, Israel, Nigeria and Singapore.

Can explain the SS and ATF being all over it like that.

Looks like mutual aid.

Hopefully isn't a "nothing to see here" situation, we'll know soon enough.

Edit: Ninja'ed by OP by two seconds.
Near embassies would explain a large response.

They were involved because its DC and they could see someone high profile getting shot the way things are being run now.
We have gunshots here, within blocks of me pretty much every night. The Police always take their time getting to gun fire incidents. Usually like 15 minutes. They are scared. I heard someone firing large and medium auto rounds less then 100' from my house. I stepped out front and waited 5 minutes. Complete silence. I went back in, then came out again 15 plus minutes later when I heard sirens in the distance. Fortunately I left my 45 in the house. ( I had got aa pistol out when I heard the shots) So Im standing on the lawn looking down the block. The sirens had stopped. All of a sudden I see a guy with a machine gun running down my sidewalk. I was looking at him, and a I see a red and white flash from my left. I turn and two cop cars speed around the corner, and spotlight me. I put my hands up. I realize I had made a big mistake coming out and could get shot.
Two other cars blocked the street on my left, and an additional 2 cars blocked my street from the right. With my hands up, I pointed at the guy who had just run by, and shouted "there he is, get him!" he threw the machine gun into the bushes, cops blocked him and tackled him, as the other cops kept me lit up. I started backing up, one step at a time, got near my door and ran in the house.

DC is a cesspool of gangs and well....trash.
It is not safe anywhere.
I lived there for a long time....and it is a zillion times worse now. I have a brother who lives there and only stays because the industry he works in thrives there.

Shots in DC is really nothing, sadly.

Oh, btw.....Secret Service would be there because that area is right behind Embassy Row. There are SS that crawl that area 24/7

Suspect has committed suicide. Name was Raymond Spencer.

Videos floating around online. Had a camera on the end of his gun. Motive supposedly unknown.

Active shooter situations pretty much automatically invokes mutual aid, regardless of where the law enforcement is from (The Columbine shooting led to massive changes to agency policies). Instead of officers securing a perimeter and then waiting for SWAT/ESU, Columbine led to a change where the first officers on scene, regardless of agency, form ad-hoc entry teams to locate the threat and neutralize it while protecting innocents.

There have been incidents in my neck of the woods where incidents occur that essentially sees a region wide code 3 response. Those code 3 response requests goes out to every single law enforcement agency - municipal, county, state and feds, park officers, etc.

Its safer to flood the area with officers and dismisses officers from the scene than a piecemeal response where there is a continual call for more officers.
