Sounds like you are describing Tenements.

Not many tenements are used as houses in the middle of Glasgow city centre these days, plenty still in most outlying areas all the same.

But yes the buildings do have there plus and minus points, having grew up in a few, i would have to say more minus than positive attributes. LoL

Most of them being in excess of 80-100 years old, stone was the obvious option back then, with a quarry source so close to the city, and connected via rail and road.

Probably best to get back on topic all the same as DTOM might not be to happy.

Feel free to PM if you wish to know anything about Glasgow and i can help.

I think that our discussion can be quite interesting not only for both of us.

Therefore, we do not need to dive into the abyss of private messages like submarines.

In reality, I did not mean Tenements.

I meant these little stone houses - www.google.ru/maps/@57.6754139,-2.9700346,3a,75y,338.43h,86.22t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sE'___'3qv0WvMWbkL0pW6fZg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en

By the way, when I walked around that city (Buckie), I got the impression that the houses are 100-150 years old.

And I thought there must be quite a few quarries around in Scotland. Now you have confirmed it.

Possibly i was meaning Glasgow as opposed to Buckie all the same.

Dont think ive ever been to Buckie.

I drank plenty of the stuff when i was a lad.

As to the quarries, half of Glasgow is build from sandstone, the colour of which gives you an indicator as to where it came from and age of the buildings.

Wow! What kind of toilet did you have on St. Vincent Place in 2018!

It is black with a metallic black ornament on top.

Most of all, it resembles a cemetery fence.

Is it made in such a way that the one who sees it discharges in his pants because of fear?

If Scottish maniacs are waiting for their victims elsewhere, it means they lack artistic taste.

Tend to try and stay away from the likes of St. Vincent public toilets turretless. LoL

If memory serves it was somewhat of a gathering spot for loads of wee neds and rent boys.

Each to their own all the same but not my cupatea.

Better places to see than there surely.

George Square - www.google.ru/maps/@55.8612767,-4.2513562,3a,75y,106.5h,88.41t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s_89rBbEUCjyPmc1fNZ2fTQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

Judging by the accumulation of monuments, this is the main square of the city.

At the other end of the square, I see what looks like an ancient church. Is it so?

When viewed from a close distance, it looks more like a palace than a church (if you do not pay attention to the very top of the building).

I attended college at Glasgow College of Building and Printing just up the hill from Georges Square many moons ago.

Bottom image is the city chambers building.

Think there's an old nuclear bomb shelter/command centre located underneath that place that connect via tunnel to the old telephone exchange building closer down towards the Glasgow Marriott Hotel.

The biggest manmade hole in Europe is in Aberdeen,Rubislaw quarry.
Aberdeen and the north east of Scotland was made from this quarry, hence Aberdeen's nickname of the granite(or silver) city.
The quarry was closed in the 1970's and is full of water now, some use it for watersports.
Buckie is a small town in Aberdeenshire.

Have you visited Roslyn chapel much Andrew? I remember Glasgow having an abundant infestation of artists when I used to frequent the joint.

Artists and a populace that didn’t get angry, rather they got stabby! Always for a reason, real or imagined.

I find it hard to understand how Building and Printing are related.

What specialty did you get there?

It is surprising that a civil building is equipped with such domes similar to church ones.

How cute! Were you also preparing for a nuclear bombing?

I found one building that struck me with its clumsiness - www.google.ru/maps/@55.8610295,-4.2453665,3a,75y,60.29h,117.08t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sJTeCjl_GNvdHOkhS6W9asw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

Judging by the inscription on it, this is a university.

Rosslyn Chapel is not in Glasgow to my knowledge Dalamax, closer to Edinburgh.

Never been but yes certainly a place i would love to visit.

I know plenty of "Artists" none of them have ever got "stabby".

Although i did have an old art teacher in secondary school that used to go mental and attack the Tannoy with a scalpel every time it interrupted the class, a Mr Jack Mclean, who went on to be rather famous in his own right.

As to those "stabby" sorts, its generally mad wee 14 year olds with there maws kitchen ware that are the problem there.

Daft sad little boys(and girls
) with nothing much to do and a massive chip on there shoulders, but dangerous nonetheless i suppose to themselves and other people.

Thats a problem that's nation wide these days as opposed to just Glasgow all the same.

Are you also Scottish?

I would never have thought that all this can be obtained from only one quarry.

If it's not difficult for you, then show me this place on a map.

I want to see it.

You would not be the first person to ponder such. LoL

I think its called City of Glasgow College these days.

Biggest building around if memory serves, at least when i attended

I got an NC in Information technology there before going on to study at Stow college and then university.

Just a college not a university, but it may be affiliated with Glasgow or Strathclyde University by now i suppose.

How cute! Were you also preparing for a nuclear bombing?

I just grew up at the arse end of the cold war and had an interest in such things.

Never been to Buckie or Roslyn dude cmon
.

I have worked in those tennement flats and at the university you went to , the Victorians Sure built big and I loved the insides of those flats with the old architecture and when you lift the floor boards they even thought of primitive sound deadening in the form of old cinders to deaden the noise .

Glasgow on a night out is not for the faint hearted
. You will get dragged up a close and chibbed if you don't watch where your going ,with Buckie just keep the car moving
.

I stayed down your way 20 years ago and spent years there and Edinburgh working at construction jobs ,best advice never go near the Barras market wearing blue or you get funny looks .

Glasgow people are salt of the earth great fun with a wicked sense of humour I enjoyed my time working in the city and the banter on nights out with the lads

I see you enjoyed studying.

Any other Glasgow Cold War facts you can tell?

I wanted to ask is this gothic?

Nope never have. Sad but true. LoL

I prefer up north, Arisaig/Mallaig way if im honest just for the solitude.

As to those tenement flats, disastrous really, and whats under those floor board is hard to be believed, i used to help renovate places like that with my dad when i was younger, fireplaces were worse.

Glasgow is Glasgow stonerwilliam good and bad places all over just like people i suppose.

Better places on planet Earth to exist all the same, but its certainly not the worst.

Or do the people of Glasgow like adventurous nightlife?

I did somewhat do the Van Wilder experience for as long as i could muster turretless.

I think much of the Cold War civil defence system has now been dismantled or even turned into tourist attractions.

I can tell you in the event of a nuclear war HMNB Clyde Faslane would be a prime target and that just one Russian Satan 2 plus accompanying warhead payload could pretty much blanket our wee nation in nuclear fire from one end of the isle to the other.

www.google.ru/maps/@55.8630049,-4.2356463,3a,75y,98.55h,107.48t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sek1KPsD2wVca-nU5tYiJeg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

That url is not working my end for some reason.

As to Catholics, well there all over Scotland just like there Protestant cousins, its not really a thing these days bar football and even that's frowned upon.

We know about religious warfare and daft hatred in spades if that what you are asking.

But there are probably more Catholics in Scotland than there are Protestant(im one of those) if im honest.

I seen a few wee bams magnet fishing in the Clyde at 3am last weekend where two of them fell in trying to pull out whatever it was they were after, don't know if that counts but it seemed rather ""adventurous"" to me.

Some areas of Glasgow have a life expectancy of 52 , you need to have a sense of humour to survive there in those circumstances
