I can't believe there isn't already a thread about the trail seen over Alaska recently.

here's a link to an article in Toronto Sun
torontosun.com...

The same story is in several outlets, but unfortunately there's only a very few pictures, so they're all showing the same ones. I can't find much else about it.
other sites include Daily Mail, here

I lived in Alaska a really really long time ago.....
IMO, that is just the perspective the photo is taken and the sun bouncing off of the clouds formed by contrails from a plane... May not be a popular opinion....but that is mine.

Trippy!
Looks like some space junk burning pretty dirty on re-entry.

Wild!
This is the first I have heard of it, and I live in Alaska!

It looks to me like a meteor..

That does happen here fairly often, but then, they say most likely jet contrail...

The angle looks a little steep for a jet, but could be an optical illusion.

Agreed that's what I'm thinking , could be a Meteor but I'm betting space junk.

Is the plane also dive bombing a mountain range like the one in the picture?

right.

a meteor would be moving much faster and glowing from friction with the air. not to mention the sonic boom.

looks pretty big for contrails.

The plane is flying straight and level. The perspective makes it look like it’s dropping.

When conditions are right you get some pretty impressive sized contrails. I’ve seen some that were far larger than you’d expect from the aircraft that was leaving them.

Is driving across central northern Mongolia once and saw a jet in the distance that liked like it was flying straight up. I knew it couldn't be and i keep an eye on it for awhile. It really liked like it was just going up and up and up.

Perspective and optical illusions happen.

100% aircraft contrail - I've seen quite a few like that over the years.

Pretty thick.
Here's one just over Pittsburgh a few summers back. I've got lot's of personal pictures of pretty amazing Contrails.

Clear sky's but there was humidity.

The plane in the OP image is likely flying high over the mountain.

True, the other day I saw a ten foot jack rabbit run through the woods! The craziness in this world needs to stop! Damn, Chem barons threatn' our country! Need to learn somethin called the Bill of Rights!

Regardless if they are chem(con)trails we are getting GOBS of toxic metals in our air and ground. Since the 'spraying' operations began in the mid 2000s and jumped likely after Fukushima our grounds act as an accelerant for any new fires. Notice how small fires just burst overnight? They don't do it for the fun of it.

These airplanes fly in non commercial flight patterns like here in Oregon going east to west or doing half circles, etc. You'd think the pilots were drunk or something! The chems get big enough to almost blot out the sun and create an artificial overcast and this is a rural area where only one flight path exists and these planes don't fly high because they are either in the process of landing or taking off. Flights north and south only get to 30,000 for a tiny bit.

I see you know nothing about aviation. There’s no such thing as “non commercial flight patterns”. You also know nothing about holding patterns.
