Looks like DDG has decided to follow the likes of google and become a nanny site. They want to decide what you should see and tell you what to think about what you see...

On March 9, Weinberg tweeted that DuckDuckGo has been “rolling out search updates that down-rank sites associated with Russian disinformation,” and added the company will “place news modules and information boxes at the top of DuckDuckGo search results (where they are seen and clicked the most) to highlight quality information for rapidly unfolding topics.”

Now where have we seen this before? Oh that's right...everywhere.

These moves essentially tell DuckDuckGo users that the decision to determine whether the information on these sites is indeed “disinformation” is not their choice to make.

Bottom line: If you're a DDG user, you've just been thrown under the bus. DDG is no better or worse than the other search engines and big tech companies who are more than willing to make up your mind for you. How long will it be before Internet Providers openly decide what websites are okay for you to visit?

Note: The second half of this article delves into decentralization, which is another topic altogether, and one I don't want to get into in this thread except to say I disagree with the authors view on it.

Funny I made a comment about ddg and google appearing to hide ,filter, or reduce ats searches yesterday.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Had to use brave search
search.brave.com...

and russian yandex to find the posts inside ats
yandex.com...

both brave and yandez came back with ton of hits while ddg and google came back with nothing or irrelevant posts.

Truthfully (no pun intended) US residents live behind a digital curtain. Just today I noticed more threads citing UK sources than US sources due to the death of the news cycle in the US.

I have found DDG to be pretty useless for a while, still works ok with the common stuff but has been dropping the ball on anything that questions the narrative.

Yandex is one I have found so far that is doing a bit better these days.

Fortunately, there are still some alternatives, but for how long is my question. DDG used to be an alternative. Now it isn't.

but for how long is my question.

Unbiased search engines are the main cog in the propaganda wheel, so I'm expecting some serious attention to be focused on total government control.

I wonder what kind of build-up or false flag would be needed for people to be onboard with this? Maybe seemingly harmless (mostly) laws and legislation will be passed and slowly amended until they no longer resemble what was originally being sold to the masses.

no false flag needed they used fear mongering. They already have what they need and unfortunately trump gave it to them . Whether the neocons tricked him or not is for debate but it was one of his first task under his administration that it occurred.

When trumps neocon lobbyist POS elected FCC head killed net neutrality they ultimately gave full control of the internet to the deepstate Oligarch controlled isp.

the democrats aren't innocent either. while they played the good cop and gave the perception they were fighting for net neutrality they weren't for it either. hence why biden hasn't done one thing to bring net neutrality back. heck not even the msm or democrats dare to mention net neutrality now.. its a perfect example how both party work together while playing good cop bad cop. in the end both party work for the same globalist control freak deepstate.

this is such a big deal that they haven't even begun to exploit it yet and it will be slowly pushed over decades so people don't revolt over it . its the ultimate censorship control they needed.

I've been noticing poor search returns on DDG for many months now. AOL, Yahoo and Bing have given me better results than Google or DDG believe it or not.

There's Qwant and like mentioned already Yandex, plus the Wayback Machine that has become invaluable for the things that have changed or disappeared altogether.

Thanks for the other search engines posted here.

Also, does anyone have a standard they used to test a search engine? Like what subjects can be used to compare the search results of different search engines? Suggestions?

Looks like Duck Duck Go has gone go to the other side and woke.

This is what happens when you type about Alex Jones. They still haven't removed infowars from their search engine but this is what is included if you decide to search on things.

Its like they switched a bit of to google search engine in a way.
I think DDG as an alternative to free speech platform is gone.

This is why i dont trust to many western independent platforms

DuckDuckGo has been going down this path for at least a year, they just didn't announce it. But I've noticed their results becoming more and more filtered for some time now, even the image searches seem to be filtered.

We are slowly being smothered in fake news and misinformation.

I say slowly, I mean quite fast... I say quite fast, I mean at a rate of knots... We're heading back to the days of word of mouth, with all these tech companies stifling information. Burn the witch.

I noticed yesterday that Duck-Duck-Go removed the article with video of the Ukraine "corpse" pulling the blue tarp back over his shoulder after a gust of wind caught a corner of it.

Now I understand why that article/video suddenly vanished from Duck Duck Go.

It has been like this for awhile. Brave is the way to go.

ETA: For searches you can use StartPage or Yandex.

Sadly Russian companies are more free than American/ European companies. I would never have believed that when I was growing up back in the 70's and '80's.

I'm going to try some of these suggestions; I changed to DDG from google some months back and yet like others here, noticed it going poison-vanilla-pill form almost immediately, just a switch and bait, like finding out, say, the twelve sacks of soil at the gardening store are all different products from the same two companies, which in reality are the same one uber-company. Don't know if there's a good way out of this situation at the present moment: as soon as one good company or product pops up, before too long it's the same ol' poison-vanilla-pill and you have to start all over again, only to run into that same uber-company again like a goddamn serial killer who keeps popping up in an 80s slasher flick.

Russia has more respect for the citizens now than when we grew up. Putin let citizens decide if they want to be vaccinated. And those who protested the Ukraine invasion didn't get executed. Much different than the Russia of old.
