They held an illegal referendum on Ukrainian soil, and then even cheated in their own fake election.

Invading forces don't get to just hold fake elections on someone else's soil.

I am not fighting you on this. For the most part I agree with you. Just the point I was making is one side is treated far more severely than the other when both broke laws, both injured people, both assaulted police, etc. All the liberal riots this nation dealt with for more than a year were laws being broken, people being assaulted including police who were ambushed and murdered, destruction of property, etc. And on Jan 6th we had a bunch of people who also broke laws. They trespassed, assaulted people, stole things, etc. Personally, I do not see the Jan 6th actions as being as bad as burning cities and murdered police officers, but hey, that's just me.

Its not mental gymnastics to excuse their behavior. What I want to see is similar treatment for both sides. I am sick of the democrats looking the other way calling it "mostly peaceful protests" while there are burning buildings on the screen. I would be very happy if the people from all those riots in all those cities were pursued as vehemently as the Jan 6th protestors were.

Like crimes deserve like responses. Which brings us back to the topic at hand. The US is doing basically the same thing for the same reasons as Russia and Ukraine. But we have, so far, stopped short of boots on the ground where Russia went in to Ukraine. All three accuse the others of being neonazi. All three attempt to control the flow of information. All three are willing to lie through their teeth if they think it will advance their cause.

So, back to my original post as devil's advocate, what Russia and Ukraine are doing to each other the US is also guilty of doing to itself along party lines instead of national borders, but without the armed incursion. And they are doing it for pretty much the same reasons. Silencing or canceling the opposing party, trying to nullify an elected President, violating the rights of the people. We aren't that different...

In the greater sense, yes they are. There are plenty of people on the left who "protested" and never saw the inside of a jail. Or worse yet, were bailed out by the left so they could go do it again. In my city they passed a bylaw that flags couldn’t be flown on vehicles in the protest convoys or anywhere else. If caught the fine was for “stunting”.

Excellent point. What does it say when we can fly a European flag but not our own? Even worse, we have to respect someone's right to deface our flag right in front of us because it is their right to express themselves. Even if they are literally burning the primary symbol of the right they are enjoying at that moment. It makes no sense...

Its only an illegal referendum because the EU/US says and the media. If this was for the EU and joining they would have no issues shows that demcoary doesn't quite exist as you think.

Russia fought the fascists in WW2 for Europe you should be lucky that that Russia didn't lose that one. If the fascists had fought and taken over Russia successfully they would have retaken back their lost areas in Eastern Europe with no problems.
