I want to warn you though, this isn’t the type of episode your used to from us.
We spoke with Darlene Keeper. Now 28 years old, she shares her experiences growing up in the Canadian Child Welfare System.
Apprehended from her mother for the first time at only 6 months of age.
She transitioned back and forth through foster care and back to her mother, only to be apprehended for the final time after a tragic incident on
Darlene’s 9th birthday.
Between the abuse she suffered from various foster parents and the everlasting trauma of what she experienced at the hands of her mother, most people
would had given up.
And there was a time when Darlene did.
But after a chance meeting with whom now has become her mentor, Darlene found her way and has now become a voice for reform in the child welfare
system.
There are some very difficult topics discussed in this one.
And to be honest, for anyone who can relate or has experienced similar situations, there will be some triggers.
Please Take care of yourselves.
