At least this one news media outlet admits one thing that most Ukrainians today are nationalists while citing Bandera, a nationalist figure who collaborated with the Nazis.
When someone says, they are "nationalists" that's a code word for Neo-Nazi. It's always been that way... or at least it has for movies that involve white people lol.

Back a decade or so, Russia was enemy nation number 1, and the US had 'red scares', spies, assassinations, and were living in fear of nuclear war with them, and people who supported anything Russian were (perhaps rightly) called traitors or mobsters.
Roll it forward to the post-Trump world, and Americans are supporting Russia and yet also denigrating their own government.
The laugh is that they call themselves patriots.
Putin and his supporters are considered Nationalists as well, but I wouldnt group them in with Neo Nazis

Still, Russian officials have denied hitting civilian targets, deriding the mounting documentation of atrocities as “Fake News” and claiming without evidence that dead and wounded civilians photographed were “crisis actors.”
Speaking at talks in Turkey about a potential cease-fire, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed concerns about civilian casualties as “pathetic shrieks” from Russia’s enemies and denied Ukraine has even been invaded.

I think theres a huge distinction that needs to be involved with that

White nationalist groups espouse white supremacist or white separatist ideologies, often focusing on the alleged inferiority of nonwhites. Groups listed in a variety of other categories—Ku Klux Klan, neo-Confederate, neo-Nazi, racist skinhead and Christian Identity—could also be fairly described as white nationalist.

The media had called Trump and his supporters far right and Nationalists to.
