Some say the slapping seemed staged it did looked a bit staged.

Absolutely staged.
Just yesterday afternoon, there were news stories that the Oscars were sunk because nobody cared about them anymore.
Today, there isn’t anyone that is not talking about them.

But they are over. I don't know that people will tune in next year..expecting lightning to strike twice.

What line?

Legal?
Unspoken?
Professional courtesy?

Assaulting comedians isnt a new thing but what is interesting is the high profile nature of this instance.

Whos next? Rogan? Dore? Brand? Mahr? Chappelle?

The above all far more controversial than Rock.

I don't think he should have slapped Chris even if the joke was tasteless. He should have approached him backstage if he was really offended. I felt Chris Rock handled it the best he could. Quite frankly, Chris could have just continued to ether him... It would have been a mic drop moment if Chris just responded "You didn't have that energy with August Alsina"

Like I said though, I think there was more going on and Will kind of lost it in the moment.

jada probably hit Will harder when they got home...

If that is what Will thought was protecting his Wife's honour.

Smith made his bed. Chris had nothing to do with it.

In my mind, comedy is sacrosanct. If its funny, its funny. If youre the only one who thinks its not funny, youre likely the butt and doesnt indicate lack of truth in the joke.

I get your point though, and given that it may be tough times for the fresh prince, maybe he should have just stayed home.

However im pretty sure all these paid performers were simply paid to perform.

I have to agree with this. Her defense should have been up to her boyfriend, not her beard.

That said, if the cuckolding of Will Smith had never gotten out in the news, I'd respect him greatly for bitchslapping the has been who mocked his woman. My only issue with that was that he did it stupidly. You wait until the cameras are off and Rock is off away from witnessing eyes and then you correct him properly. Chris Rock, laying in a Beverly Hills ICU bed saying "Will Smith whipped me down" absent any witnesses looks like Jusse Smollett talking out his ass reduce, because nobody would believe Smith would do that... Will Smith backhanding you in front of a crowd and with cameras rolling, however, is just begging for a lot of hysterical BS from the zero tolerance peacenik idiots.

It is possible to laugh at tasteless humor while still appreciating someone personally going after the comedian.

Either, and mind you I accept the comedian defending themselves as well.

Bottom line, don't want sht don't start sht. Just because you're trying to be funny doesn't make one immune from the reality that starting sht can rightfully lead to the consequence of someone wanting to whip your ass.

At the end of the day, there were no victims here. Cue ball got her name mentioned at the Oscars for the first time, Will Smith proved that the law isn't racist but rather is entirely classist as it permitted the millionaire black man to waltz away with zero charges after assaulting someone, and Chris Rock starred in the biggest hit he's ever been or ever will be associated with. No victims here.

Pretending im taking this event at face value mind you.

Chris Rock is a renown, some say iconic comedian. A career built on integrity and continuity to some extent. His jokes and routine were somewhat edgy but still based in comedy. Without it, there would be no such career.

Smith on the other hand, has made his name and wealth in pretend land. Everything about the guy is a construct of someone elses mind.

If were drawing a moral line here that says because someone offended me, publicly, i have the right to smack him back in line, should the context also apply...morally?

To put my stance in perspective, what would happen if say you or me were to smack around Rock? Would we have even got to the stage let alone left the building of our own volition?

Humor is subjective, and tasteless humor is pretty much plain to see.

Assault, however, is assault - even if you think you have a reason. Is this how we are all supposed to act when someone cracks a joke about us or our loved ones? Or is will smith just a privileged black guy who thinks the rules don't apply to him?

I think he's in serious trouble with his "woke" base.
Probably not too many roles or Academy invitations coming in future.

Perfect point.

Smith hit Rock because he knew he could get away with it legally and/or financially.

That is, if we take it all at face value.

So now how do we trick Brandon into making fun of Jada?

I totally understand the "at face value" portion. Everytime I've seen the video, I've honestly drifted further towards the "this was staged horsecrap" camp. Rock's reaction and Smith's theatrical swing both look more Hollywood than real life.

Obviously if you or I pulled that stunt, we'd be in jail right now... but that the class issue with the law in the USA. There's one set of rules for the ultra wealthy, another set for the wealthy, yet another set for the famous but not grossly wealthy, a forth set for the average middle class and upper middle class shlubb (these are the harshest of the laws) and finally a set for the country's flops.

I think that you're seeing me standing on a platform I am not standing on here. I don't care about the law. The law is a joke and basing right vs wrong on whether laws were broken is a fool's errand. Similarly, morality is highly subjective and also apart from the law. I'm just speaking as a man here. If another man rags on your woman (or your kids or you mama, etc) unprovoked, then as a man I am whipping that man's ass. I would expect that man to also act as a man and defend himself, which is one of the reasons I don't run around unarmed. Was Will Smith acting lawfully or morally? Don't know, can't say I care, but taken at face value and absent previous clear indications that the man isn't very manly (permitting his woman to lay with other men, for example) he was acting as a man handling his business as he saw fit and in that moment as a man myself, I find zero fault in his actions. Had Rock balled up a fist and countered the slap, I'd find zero fault with him for that, either.

I'm too damn old school for this genteel modern farce of a world, I guess. I whole heartedly believe the way to handle a wannabe comedian who disrespects you is to do so the old school way: beating his ass while laughing your own ass off yelling "Think that's funny? How about this, it's effing hilarious, isn't it?" (and yeah, that's taken from a real life incident I had when I was 17)

What if Will Smith and Chris Rock are both
undercover Russian agents, just reviving the good ole times?

I get where your coming from. You also see my point here as well.

What im trying to point to however is the principala of the first ammendment.

"I may disagree but ill defend your right to say it."

To me, thats where comedy lives. Capitalism takes care of the rest.

That's something that stinks about this situation. Smith think the rules don't apply to him because they clearly don't. The respect I am showing this incident would be more from a philosophical perspective, meaning if an everyman handled his business in this manner, aware that he was breaking the rules and ready to handle the consequences of breaking them, then I have nothing but respect for him. Life's rules aren't natural, they are an artificial construct and serve to handcuff mankind away from holistic responses to problems. If those problems were dealt with naturally and outside of the rules, then those problems tend to serve Darwin's law quite well. Problems dealt with through the "rules" simply compound and lead to recidivism.
