I didn't really listen the Genesis when they first came out. And, their original music is so totally different than the stuff I learned to love by Phihl Collins.
What a musical genius, what a drummer, what a talent.

His health has been declining for years, but still he persevered.
We bid a fond farewell to his performances.

nypost.com...

Music legend Phil Collins held his last concert ever amid his ongoing health issues.

Collins was joined by Genesis bandmates Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks for their last show ever at London’s 02 Saturday evening. Collins, 71, performed the show sitting down and quipped to the crowd he will now need to find a real job, the Daily Mail reported.

Must have been quite a concert, wish I could have been there.

I'm feeling old.

Phil Collins is a wonderful musician. He was everywhere in the 80's.

A creep con artist in an episode of Miami Vice.

My fondest memory of Genesis.

Seeing him with a cane and wrist wraps. My heart sinks little.

Thank you Phil.

Classic.

Anyone from Phil Collins, Gene Simmons, Mark Linn-Baker and Bruce Willis.

I just have to except that the people in my life, and the thing and people I've associated with are going away.

I lost my Betty White.

I know, right?
At some point, the pace is going to pick up.

So, it's good to be able to celebrate while Phil is still alive.

Lol..

Off subject, but back in November I saw Steely Dan... well just Dan. It was Donald Fagen and an excellent line up. Amazing show, but I sat there enjoying and realizing it may be the last time i see him.

Cue Over the hill mid life crisis.

By the way, the story of his cousin drowning. And the lifegaurd being at the show and the spotlight story is not true.

It's Jimmy Fallon I know.

He looks terrible..what a shame... but old age comes and steals our youth away from us ready or not. At least he had an interesting life and did things many could only dream of.

I tried the Clint Eastwood saying, "Don't let the old man in" but I gotta say the old man is persistent !

What an awesome musician, he was awesome in genesis and just as great solo.

I think his most outstanding concert, is live from Berlin, the whole show is quality, the talent of his band is just brilliant, most of his crew from this concert have been with him at the time for years.

Pretty much like Bruce Springsteen and the e street band, when you have a great team you stick with each other.

I was just thinking about him last weekend. Had no idea he was at O2.
He looks so old and frail
I had no idea he is clearly deteriorating with something.
What is causing his ailing health, anyone know?
So, so sad
71 is no age these days.

It's so sad to see him in that state. Like so many artists of my generation (circa 50 years ago), it is a slow torture to witness the decline in health or the passing of those who made us dance, sing and dream.

At least their legacies live on and are always there for us to rewind the clock and remember better, happier times.

More of a Peter Gabriel man when it comes to genesis but there's no denying Phil Collins took the band further than Gabriel could have , as a musician and song writer Phil held all the aces.

Not a great drummer in my book but I did like his playing style , I don't begrudge Phil and the boys a last fling in the limelight but I thought it sad they dropped Chester Thompson from the tour in favour of Phil's son on drums.

I also find it sad to see Phil as he is now , I wish him a happy and long retirement and hope he's on top of his demons.

Great voice.

This is very sad to me for a number of reasons, which I prefer to not go into.

Suffice it to say that whomever had a chance to see and hear Collins in Concert were treated to not just a terrific time, but a wonderful memory to cherish in their lifetime.

Besides the wonderful tunes that he composed and played, he was accidentally' responsible for creating a new form of recording how drums sound. The Sound Engineers during the recording of Peter Gabriel's solo album, they had a new mixing console that featured a "Talkback Button" that would let you hear everything in the studio by an overhead mic. That Talkback mic was left on during the recording of Collin's drum tracks and everyone was very impressed with the results of how the drums sounded. This was back in 1979.

You can hear that sound in one famous air-played tune called "In the Air Tonite" by Phil Collins. and that unique 'sound' took the 80's by storm and every band wanted to have that same sound that was actually made as an accident. And it's heard in some of the 80's top songs like;

Duran Duran - "View to a Kill"
Prince - "Kiss"
Kate Bush - "Hounds of Love"
John Couger - "Jack & Diane"

And as is the indicative way of a good thi9ng... too much and it fades away so by the 90's everyone was tired of hearing that "sound". Below is a good example and explanation.

Never knew this.
For a second I thought you were referring to a multi track recorder.

No I never got to see him. Or Duran Duran, yes I was big into Duran Duran. I still am. I loved A View To a Kill too. Hehehe.

Like DTOM said, that the pace is going to pick up.

Like Eddie Van Halen Said.
"I will always be with you, just push play"☹

I can relate to how Phil might be feeling. 8 lower back surgeries, 2 neck and 2 knee surgeries. Not like him I can't feel my left leg.

How harsh it must be for him to come to this realization that this is it. Man I'm having sad feelings for him.

Ok! Who's cutting unions?

Edit: FYI, I thank you for that link.

Sorry to see Phil go-- there are the haters that believed
the band died when Gabriel left; but if one listens to
anything off 'Trick of the Tail' it's hard to tell Phil from Pete
at times. Always an A for effort from me, with OR without
Chester as 'reinforcements'.
Now for a monster in his prime, hear the Live '73 perc rendition of
"Get 'em Out by Friday' and 'Mighty Hogweep'. No typo: always have.
