Because rubles no longer have any value outside russia.

In the age of disinformation and deception its hard to tell what anything is any more. We can watch someone make a speech on television and immediately following are the press straight out lying about what was just said. That actually works because most people either don't watch the speech, or only part of it, and rely on the recap at the end.

Modern war means firing off as many fake news stories as bullets. At this point, its hard to tell which does more damage.
