A question? Most of ATS state masks do not work to stop any virus, so why would dropping mask mandates have anything to do with the increase in the flu? I see posts here stating the increase is do to a lessening of requirements.

I actually do think masks work when worn correctly with the right type of mask, I’ve said this from the beginning, but I know what you mean.

The problem is you can’t have half the population wearing them on their chin. The other thing is are we going to go on with life wearing masks forever? We need to be human, and wearing the mask does take away from that.

Masks do reduce the spread of the flu, but I see another factor here in Oregon. Many people just weren't going anywhere due to the mask requirements. Those people have been making up for lost time in the past few days. It's been packed everywhere that I go.

Oh yeah half never wore them properly. I do know some people who deal with the public state they will continue to wear them though. From not being sick to realizing that people were just about spitting on them in close contact, they're like, "I'm good to keep wearing one".

Key Points

Influenza activity is increasing in most of the country.
The highest influenza percent positivity levels were seen in states in the central and south-central regions of the country.
The majority of influenza viruses detected are A(H3N2). H3N2 viruses identified so far this season are genetically closely related to the vaccine virus. Antigenic data show that the majority of the H3N2 viruses characterized are antigenically different from the vaccine reference viruses. While the number of B/Victoria viruses circulating this season is small, the majority of the B/Victoria viruses characterized are antigenically similar to the vaccine reference virus.
The percentage of outpatient visits due to respiratory illness increased slightly this week but is still below baseline. Influenza is contributing to levels of respiratory illness, but other respiratory viruses are also circulating. The relative contribution of influenza varies by location.
The number of hospital admissions reported to HHS Protect has increased each week for the past five weeks.
The cumulative hospitalization rate in the FluSurv-NET system is higher than the rate for the entire 2020-2021 season, but lower than the rate seen at this time during the four seasons preceding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Two influenza-associated pediatric deaths were reported this week. There have been 10 pediatric deaths reported this season.
CDC estimates that, so far this season, there have been at least 2.7 million flu illnesses, 26,000 hospitalizations, and 1,500 deaths from flu.

Wow 2.7 million flu illnesses, 26,000 hospitalizations, and 1,500 deaths from flu. from 0 in the last 2 years.

You think the flu is seeking revenge? COVID wiped it out for over two years.

Now it is time for payback. The flu is going to take COVID out.

My grandkids and now my daughter have some kind of virus. It is not covid though and it is not a nice disease. The doctors did not know what it is, not the flu, not covid, and not strep. What a waste of money it is to go to the clinic when they don't do anything at all anyway. I keep telling my daughter to just take care of the kids and stay away from the doctors unless it is really bad. But she is afraid that others will condemn her for not going to the doctors everytime the kids sneeze...and she is not delusional, a lot of people are convinced that you have to take your kid to the doctor if they even get a small fever or any symptoms at all. This will lead to a lot higher insurance costs and most times the kids are almost over things when they go to the walkin. The walkin clinic does nothing yet the kids get better...why go. Almost every time she has gone in with the kids it was the same thing. Now an ear infection or something like strep throat...they can help with that and sometimes it will not get better without antibiotics.

Oh, do not worry the herpes virus still alive and well with the mask or no mask, something that will never be stopped, people does like to you know, be very close to each others.

And yes I been sarcastic,

Nothing will stop viruses from spreading, nothing.

Flu never went away, people just were diagnosed with covid even if it was the flu, after all both viruses are pretty much similar in symptoms.

Yep flu really never went away,

I also wonder if some of the areas that were very mask heavy are now being exposed to normal sicknesses.

That's my guess.

And yes Bunch of people are getting sick with something. Not me or my mother. But our neighbors and my moms church friends. And I just don't think that it's a coincidence that everyone was wearing masks here until recently.

I wonder if it's possible for covid to mutate to a state were it's so weak it wont test as covid anymore?

Me, one of my kids, and a coworker had the flu last week. I didn't go to the doctor, but they both did and tested positive for influenza A. I had the same symptoms so I assume I had the same thing.

It can mutate in a variety of ways that would cause it to not get picked up by the tests, but the mutations are not limited to trending towards a weaker state. It can also mutate into something stronger that the tests won't pick up.

I think that covid cases in the U.S. will stay low for a while. Enough people had omicron to give us some months of herd immunity.

Ivermectin would knock all of these flu strains for a six.

But that would be far too simple.

Wake up people.

You can't have the cure, so get more jabs and buy the cold and flu tabs that make you feel a bit better.

Wake the hell up everyone. The cure is available but you can't get it.
