What are the chevrons on tanks they point either north,south,west or east and i see them on tanks not only US but other tanks around the world.

Nonsense. I think it is like the "Delta" on American tanks. It's a visual IFF designation: "Identification, Friend or Foe" it means, "If you are on our side and see this on a tank, don't shoot. It's one of ours."
