why is this happening

Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to maintain “full-time combat readiness”. The military has been asked to remain on high alert as the new revised defense law expanding the powers of the armed forces came into force from this year.

Because they're contemplating a invasion of Taiwan while the world's attention is on Russia.

But.

I suspect that Russia's issues with their invasion is possibly giving them pause. The only way a Taiwan invasion is going to work for them is if they can pull it off in a couple of days. Preferably while Joe is taking his nap. Otherwise they're looking at possible nukes. Especially if it drags out for weeks. Along with thousands of causalities on both sides.

An embargo on China would be worthless. China simply makes most of the consumer products that the world is hooked on. Not to mention they have or control most of the world's lithium supply. No lithium batteries for you! Screw you Tesla. And GM. Toyota. And the rest.

But if the government is reading this I would simply tell them to have a missile sub pay a port call to Taiwan. Having 20 nukes floating at port there would be a major deterrent. And you better hurry on that. The clocks are ticking. And once it's there? Announce to the world the sub and it's weapons are a gift to the Taiwanese people. Permanent fix.

Although the news in America is not reporting it, there is now much tension here . There is no Japanese military activity going on today or with the US forces in Okinawa or mainland Japan. The movement of subs is secret in the China sea.

Another possible reason, outside of Taiwan, is Russia just formally asked China for military assistance in Ukraine. So far it looks like it deals with certain weapons Russia is apparently low / almost out of. The US warned countries not to assist Russia with Ukraine so we are, as always, 1 bad bottle of tequila away from WW3.

lol China thinking a take over of Taiwan would take days is as idiotic as Russia thinking they could take Ukraine in 3-5 days. They are now in week 3.

Exactly. Russia wasn't expecting the level of resistance they got. Running into that same kind of buzzsaw in Taiwan is probably giving the Red Chinese pause to contemplate on the consequences of invading. Thousands to hunderds of thousands dead on both sides and Taiwan in smoking ruins by the time they're done. Plus the rest of the world boycotting or putting tariffs on Chinese products with the aim of getting off Chinese products all together. A Taiwan invasion could be the equivalent of Pearl Harbor was to the Japanese empire.

And something the Democrats in the American government won't survive either. The loss of Afghanistan looked bad. The loss of Taiwan in an election year? Could result in a total Democrat route. And a Congress full of Republicans and a Trump presidency in 2024? Maybe their worst nightmare in the long term.
