Still not showing up on any quake sites; glad it was such a mild one.

Does Japan use something other than the Richter scale to classify earthquake intensity?

A magnitude 3 tremor on the Richter scale is barely noticeable, in most cases.

Especially in an earthquake-prone (and prepared) country like Japan.

Here in California, a 3 on the Richter scale barely stirs our lattes!

Apparently it was a mild shock. But it was an alert broadcast last night on TV when it happened. They do this for a couple of reasons. One would be the trains, the shinkansens and the subways.
I know by living in Tokyo when the earth moves and I'm heading for a subway, I stayed above ground for a while before taking the next subway.
But on this morning news, apparently it was just a small shake of the earth and appears NO damage done.
