I once got a £700 pound bill for a house that had been boarded up waiting for demolition with the electricity off. I suspect it was a deliberate attempt at fraud rather than a mistake as they made no attempt to pursue it or explain.

Sound's suspiciously like someone rewired it and was likely growing wackybaccy in there.

I leave the small light on in the kitchen for the dog and I am never in bed before 5 am our prices per kWh are 22.1p going to 30.64 p .

Same here brother.

Normally around 100gbp per month for gas and electric, gets me a bit of credit built up.

This month I owe 270gbp and my payments are going up to 300gbp or a little more.

So, as soon as I heard this from my better half, the heating went off, the tumble dryer went off, the lights are off. I think I can save enough to ensure no rise in bills, I was wasteful for sure.

But it is currently 11 degreesC in my livingroom

I'm not on a water meter, so am considering a hydro generator and just leave a tap running 24/7

Edit - I forgot to add - I also cut down a tree for fuel for next winter
Sadly it was a nice silver birch but it was bang in the middle of mine and next door's boundary and had potential for causing issues.

I bet you are just loving the 50-70 % increase in prices today Nonspecific with more to come in August. Search on YouTube for heaters made from cans I watched it recently and it looked simple to do and with the way my neighbor drinks I would have the cans in no time .

I am still shocked at what you are paying

I was talking to my mother today Nonspecific and energy bills poped into the conversation ,you are not alone in having a bill like that she is paying £400 a month for a one bedroom place and the same on gas per month But when you open the door it's like Bermuda with the heat set to full and the place is like the Blackpool Illuminations .

I thought people had a price cap on energy ? My niece also replied to my text that she was spending£ 80 pw but has a much larger property and children .

I think I will stay put where I am at the moment but Boris picked a great time to ban stoves and blowing up all the coal fired power stations

Bumping this thread because I just got my yearly statement and projection and remembered about this thread

£ 403 used in 12 months 1439 kwh peak rate 25.56p per kwh ,Off peak 14.46 p per kwh and this is a top up meter which some consider expensive with a daily standing charge of 62.21 pence for the metre .

Amazing what you can do with a magnet
