I didn't write much, if anything, about any of this, but I'm at a point now where it might benefit some to see it, so I will share.

Not sure ho much of this I mentioned previously, but back in mid-October I had a massive DVT with a double PE in both lungs. Spent some quality ICU time, blah, blah, blah (don't want to bore anyone, as I know I often do).

Not long after this I had some pretty serious issues with my left hip. Long story short, it needs replaced now. So, there's that also. Then there were some iron issues with my blood. Even more joy. Anyway...

Had to make some lifestyle changes, as you might figure. Quit smoking, quit drinking, eating healthier.

On October 17, 2021 I quit smoking. Quit drinkin' alcohol too. Kind of a bummer, but I got used to it.

Today, I am 40 lbs lighter, can see my belt buckle without sucking in my gut, forgot all about cigarettes, and don't think I even want a beer anymore. As I've told everyone who will listen, I will never be that holier-than-thou former smoker. I smoked, I liked it, I quit...that's all there is to it. Period. I drank, I liked it, it didn't like me, and I quit. Again, that's all there is to it. I never tried to diet in any way, but shed the weight just by not being a piglet (a really big piglet, but piglet all the same).

Former Will Power = 0.5%. Current Will Power = 99.9%

Moral - If you're interested, you can do it. If I could do it, anyone can. If you're not interested, I completely understand. Far be it from me to pass judgement one way or the other. I will still be a friend either way.

That is all.

Cheers!

We hardly ever realize that we can cut anything out of our lives, anytime, in the blink of an eye.

Both of us have had to make changes, dr said that or die. Will probably do that soon anyway but we are stopping coffee, eating way less of things on his list, we are vegetarian but my BP is off the charts.

Dr actually said to eat more soy, the male soy thing he says is not true and soy has something in it that helps people live longer.

Anyway have to exercise daily now, we already didn't do much I stopped smoking 20 years ago.

So like you said.......

Good for you, my friend!

While I have never smoked or drank alcohol I can only imagine how difficult that must be for someone to quit. I never used to eat that great, but I also had a health scare a few years back and now I eat better, but I am still no saint.

I wish you all the best.

(My willpower is still .5%)

Congratulations! You have inspired my to give it a try. I’m 64 and I need to loose about 40 lbs as well. My grandson is a personal trainer, tomorrow I’m going to make the call and get something started.

Holy Moly! That my man, is will power. Great title!

If people are having problems with food, I recommend looking into keto & intermittent fasting. My body totally shuts down unless I eat that way. Plus industrial food will kill you.

Right now I'm fasting. Haven't eaten in 62 hrs, aiming for 72 or more. Supposed to be good for you.

Good job. I'm not a smoker but can stop drinking for 2 to 3 weeks at a time. Even so, when I drink, it is lightweight. A beer now and again.

Like you, I don't really miss it when I'm not drinking. A lot is psychological, after a hard day, I find myself wanting a beer.

Getting past one's own mind is the hardest part.

Cheers
