Living in Asia, we like these kind of movies that make USA movies look a bit different

I don't like violence in life, but it is human nature. This movie shows the real underworld of Hong Kong in the old days.
In Hong Kong even today, the Triad buys the streets to the flats. One must pay them to enter their cars to the parking lots. Didn't know that did you.
This movie is pretty cool. But it is in all Chinese. But watch it anyway with your American GMO popcorn and butter.

Remember seeing 'The Killer' as a young teenager and was overwhelmed with the shooting scenes, had not seen anything like it in Hollywood movies, it was so insanely over the top but still tried very hard to remain serious, very interesting mix for the time.

As the killer was also a John Woo creation i suspect this will be very similar only a bit less VHS type quality.
Chow Yun-Fat is a real fun actor to watch, after these i only saw him in some Hollywood type movies like Bulletproof monk and as a pirate leader in Pirates of the Caribbean.

I remember the trips to Hong Kong with a friend to buy some Kung Fu movies .
One side of the audio was Mandarin the other side was Cantonese and subtitled in English .

Good times .

One of our members here ( past ) lives there and stared in some heavy kill type movies there. Sad that he was... on here.

The newer Hong Kong movies are really " blow em type stuff ". Lucky we can watch them here in Asia on YouTube, not sure if other countries have access to them.

You want me to watch a two hour movie in Chinese with no English subs. I literally laughed out loud when I clicked the Closed caption button and it said not available.

You're a hoot. What would we do all night on the west coast without street talk and movie night. LOL

I'm not going to California unless the trip includes a time machine.

I wasn't around, but I think the late 70's were nice there.

I lived in Pacific Palisades at the time. Venice Beach was hip. No homeless and on a few pot smokers at the time.
Now, it a parking lot of ... that couldn't survive 3 days without mugging someone or govt. assist.

many years ago I was in the DC area
there was a theater that played Chinese (language) movies
some had English subtitles, some didn't.

I enjoyed them, even if I didn't understand what was going on.

all-Chinese audience eating exotic snacks, kids playing in the aisles.

I think one was called 'Magnificent Warriors', about Chinese resisting Japanese invaders in WWII. (some place called Putan Kal?)

www.imdb.com...

I like Jackie Chan movies. Just watched an old one where he spoke in Chinese and someone else translated what he said. Been watching his movies for many years, it is strange to hear someone else's voice when he talks...you would think they could have had him say the stuff in that old movie from when he was young.
