Just a few months ago, it seemed Israel had all but beaten COVID-19. Infections, hospitalizations and deaths were vanishingly low.
“Omicron hits everyone, whether vaccinated or not,” Gili Regev-Yochay, a Harvard epidemiologist,
Especially with Omicron, where we don’t see virtually any difference, there is a very narrow gap between people vaccinated and non-vaccinated, both can get infected with a virus, more or less at the same pace.
Professor Cyrille Cohen is head of Immunology at Bar Ilan University and a member of the advisory committee for vaccines for the Israeli Government. In a wide-ranging and forthright interview, the Professor tells Freddie Sayers:
The Green Pass / vaccine passport concept is no longer relevant in the Omicron era and should be phased out (he expects it to be in short order in Israel)
He and his colleagues were surprised and disappointed that the vaccines did not prevent transmission, as they had originally hoped
The biggest mistake of the pandemic in Israel was closing schools and education
Widespread infection is now an inevitable part of future immunity — otherwise known as herd immunity
Omicron has accelerated the pandemic into the endemic phase, in which Covid will be “like flu”
Sweden will lift its mask requirements for public transportation, capacity limits for bars and restaurant, as well as all proof of vaccination requirements. Andersson also said employers with staff working from home should make a plan “for a gradual return to the workplace."
Sweden joins Denmark, Norway and France as one of the latest European countries that have begun to remove or at least scale back COVID-19-restrictions.
Andersson said she is not declaring the pandemic over, but Sweden was entering a new phase.
Israelis over 60 who are either unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated against COVID-19 died in significantly higher numbers last month compared to people in their age cohort who are fully vaccinated, according to official figures published by the Israeli Health Ministry.
The numbers show that while only approximately 12 percent of Israelis over 60 are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, together they account for 43 percent of COVID deaths in their age group in the previous month.
The surge was actually caused by non vacinated

827 serious condition. New infection rate is slowing for now.
But a month ago Israel had seen a million cases of covid despite fourth booster.
COVID-19 in Israel: 15,297 new cases, 827 serious condition
What the Hell Is Happening to COVID in Israel?
Even the daily beast is asking the same question despite the apparent success from an earlier month.
“Omicron hits everyone, whether vaccinated or not,” Gili Regev-Yochay, a Harvard epidemiologist,
What happened in Israel with massive vaccination is a sign what might happened if countries go fully 100% vaccination threshold.
one of those preventive measures stopped them from catching Omicron.
They are nowhere near the 90% that is required for herd immunity on the first two doses, and the current boom in numbers of cases, and in numbers of deaths, is entirely explicable by that...

Where did the 90% number come from?
Honestly curious I heard about 6 different numbers over the last 2 years, and when you dig back prior to covid online it seems to just say Majority of the population has the antibodies.
So who came up with it, what scientific standard was used, what data backs up 90% as the magic number?
