I live off the beaten path. I like to go shopping in Marquette occasionally to see how messed up their town is getting. I have no interest in going
to big cities and looking around anymore, they actually suck.
I like having deer, Rabbits, Martens, squirrels, and chippies all over the place outside. Not too fond of the skunks though, they come running to me
when I go outside thinking I have food for them...I put the food out for the other critters here, but they get full and leave a bit and the skunks do
come and clean up the area. We can't put suet out in the summer or hang any bird feeders because the bears will come around and trash the feeders on
the deck, They bend half inch metal rods holding the feeders like they are pulling down a twig on a tree. I have to take one bent one off and put it
into the vise to straighten the suet hanging rod because I cannot straighten it by hand.
The UP is a good place to live if you like snow five months or more of the year, from November to April there is snow most years, sometimes we even
get storms in may. But I would not trade living here to go to three quarters of the country. I have been to a lot of states and parts of Canada, but
this is my home. It is interesting to go look at other places, but after seeing so many other places, it gets boring.
If I were to suggest a place to go that is a great place it would be Isle Royale. It is rustic camping though, but lots of gooseberries to pick and
eat on the trails. It gets kind of exciting when you run into a moose while walking down the trail. Don't run, just hide behind a tree and stay
still, they have a hard time seeing you there, but if you run they chase you and they are fast. I don't know what kind of eyes they have that act
that way, but it usually works. During the mating season, there are no people there other than a few park people, they probably carry a gun then
because the moose are more fired up.
Not everyone likes to haul camping gear around for miles though, but if your young and like that kind of stuff the Island is a nice place. Copper
Harbor is real nice too, and they have some good reasonable restaurants up there.
