Remington just paid out $73 million to settle the Sandy Hook lawsuit. The defense used a new angle to the lawsuit in that they attacked Remington for advertising their weapons as a military style thing, which allegedly influenced the user to shoot up the skool.

www.independent.co.uk...

So reading this is kinda scary TBH on a bunch of angles. It opens up a whole can of worms.

So can Ford be sued when someone dies from speeding in a Mustang cuz the car is advertised as a Sports Car to go faster than the speed limit?

If we are going with the Marketing angle, then every single product on earth is susceptible to lawsuits, not due to any defect, but due to someone misusing a product.

So if someone kills someone with a Stanley knife, does Stanley get sued? If someone is skiing and hits a tree, does Rosignol get sued???

What about Busweiser....do they get sued if someone drinks and drives and kills someone?????

This is the Pandora's box this lawsuit has opened as it will set precedent now.

This will be a death knell for the 2nd amendment by way killing manufacturers.

No, it's Remington rolling over.

Someone like Budweiser with Billions to use, or Ford for the same reasons, probably wouldn't roll over. Remington, to my knowledge, doesn't have those kinds of resources.

Blaming the tool works, mostly because people don't want to do the hard work of solving the real issues behind these sorts of horrific events...

Tobacco Companies have been sued in the past by relatives of those who died from smoking. The can of worms was opened a long time ago.

You joke, but the gist of the lawsuit was "The lawsuit claimed Remington directed its marketing of the rifles towards young men"

So anyone that raped a woman should be let off now cuz.....it wasn't their fault.

Let sue the internet cuz....Pornhub.

Yes, they are the biggest liars of all. Never mind the long list of 'vaccine' side-effects and that the big pharma 'can't get sued' it's all one big con!

Fast food
Cigarettes
Media
Google especially the algorithms

Imagine never taking responsibility for anythng.

Also, i cant shake the thoughts of the vaccine makers ability to be shielded from lawsuits....at the behest of a president.

It was wrong?

Why was it wrong? Scientists knew as far back as 1939 that the burning of tobacco products produced benzopyrene, a carcinogen, yet big tobacco companies continued to flaunt their products as safe. They also knew precisely how addictive the nicotine was, so that even if people knew better, it would be nigh impossible for them to stop using their product.

Firearms companies on the other hand have never purported that their product is anything other than deadly and in my eyes, should never have even seen a day in court.

Making firearms and ammo has never been easier for regular people to do.

If every major manufacturer of weapons and ammo ceased to exist, it would explode the “craft” market faster than it already is. It’s just easier to buy in a store, now. If this changes, more weapons will be available elsewhere and with less oversight by governments and bureaucrats.

Every step they make to controlling all weapons creates the demand necessary to remove their ability to regulate them entirely by making it prohibitively expensive to enforce. Want to sell more AR-15s? Float a bill to ban them in the halls of Congress.

The 2nd amendment doesn’t grant you the right to bear arms, it simply points out what governments can’t do in regulating them. When that fails, they still have the problem of an armed populace. Your right is yours when you exercise it.

I get it.

However, I think it's more fair with false advertising. For decades tobacco companies claimed there wasn't a connection between smoking and many diseases such as cancer.

I don't know of any gun company that has claimed these firearms aren't lethal weapons. See what I mean?

Agreed, you have the same take as me on this topic. Everyone knows firearms can be deadly if misused, or used for self-defense and hunting.

Well, I'll have to look into it. It only shows on Wikipedia the Revenue was $950 million (2004). So 73 million USD isn't going to hurt Remington. But just doing this sends an ominous message.

They still build for the military and police. Squeezing them down to backlogged orders for civilian use fire arms will get scarce.

Watching with much interest.

As nicely pointed out...
It's not my fault that my CAR hit a pedestrian with a lisp after I was consuming to much Budweiser, Miller, Coors, Michelob, Stroub, Rolling Rock, Schlitz, Colt 45, Pabts Blue Ribbin, Bacardi, Grey Goose, Jack Daniels, Wild Turkey, Jim Beeam, ALL THE ESTABLISHMENTS THAT SERVE ALCOHOL.

I WISH TO SUE TACO BELL, MCDONALD'S, ARBY'S, WENDY'S FOR MAKING ME FAT!

I want to sue the Jarupa Unified School District, Washoe County School District, The University of Nevada Reno, The University of Pittsburgh and Robert Morris University because I WAS PROMISED I WOULD BECOME A MILLIONAIRE COWBOY ASTRONAUT NFL QUARTERBACK.

I have no need for personal responsibility on my part. It's everyone else's fault.
