Performance enhancing drugs are banned and tested for at the Olympics. Violations of these rules can result in entire nations being banned for "Doping". Russia is notorious for being violators of doping rules. AND, Russia is currently banned from the Olympics...for doping, right? Olympic Committee investigators found an endemic doping scheme in Russian athletes and banned them from the Olympics.

So...why aren't they banned from the Olympics?? So, what happened after Russia was banned? The 'athletes' (read: Russia) just turned around and formed another quasi-country called "ROC", or "Russian Olympic Committee". Hmmm...that smells a whole lot like a banned nation competing in the Olympics anyway, doesn't it to you??? And THEN what happened???

One of the premier Russian athletes (now 'ROC') thought to be medal worthy, a women's Figure Skating champ by the name of Kamila Valieva gets busted for what? DOPING!!! AFTER, she competes and nearly wins a Gold medal. Now, forget about her for just a moment, and think about all the other skaters who got pushed down a notch in their placing because this girl, athletes who worked their entire lives for a chance in the spotlight and on the podium, what did they get? They effectively got punished for the Olympic Committee's failure to enforce the rules! Oh sure, they might get moved up after all the TV lights get turned off, 3-4 days later, but where was their day in the lime light? They didn't get one...because of a doper. This is just plain wrong! And it's a travesty.

WTF??? Banned means Banned! Countries who are banned for doping should not be allowed to compete! Period! End of discussion!

What say you?

Why whine about doping when trans athletes are allowed? That's doping in another form.

Incorrect!
let me guess, you're from a red state and you think the world revolves around you and your political/religious beliefs?
Transgender athletes train just as hard as anybody else and have all of their hormone levels closely monitored and screened prior to participating in a majority of sporting events!
Is ATS Just a playground for you to spread misinformation and hate about minority groups??
Sad fellow!!!

Transism is a severe mental disorder. Mental institutions are the only place for them. 40% suicide rate, daily dilation. What an nightmare.

Another incorrect answer!

Woweee what did trans people do to you!
It's okay god says love thy neighbour, so if you are expressing this opinion based on your religious beliefs you deserve everything that's coming to you X10!

No argument about that at all! In fact, they were pretty much included in my 'doping' reference anyway (at least that's what I meant, but didn't say it directly).

Do trans people take hormones of the opposite sex from their birth sex?

Yes.

Case closed!

On one hand, it wouldn't be fair to punish all Russian athletes now by not allowing them to enter, because of something other Russian athletes did years ago.

On the other hand, who's training them now? I remember reading about the previous wide-ranging doping scandal, which if I remember correctly included a rather large web connected to a variety of different people, Doctors, trainers, Government Officials, etc... etc...

Are those same people still involved with the ROC? I assume some probably are. There's probably many people still working in the background trying to find different types of drugs that can be used to produce similar effects, but that are not yet on the anti-doping lists.

The only thing the ban really did was prevent the Russian National Anthem from being played, and also the Russian flag from being displayed.

Which is precisely the reason the bans are structured the way they are. It's easy to get all sappy about one athlete being blamed for the actions of another, but that's not the reality. As I noted in the OP, in the case of Russia the doping was found to be endemic in their system as a whole. Why? Because the Olympics is a great propaganda tool, and is therefore a source of national pride. Consequently, systematic doping should be a source of national shame, and no one should be exempt from it.

And frankly, this is a perfect and justifiable reason to go compete for another country (something I covered in another post here a moment ago). Convenience, and or political influence, is not one of those reasons.

I saw her skate, and she did win first place. Whether or not she will get the medal or not remains to be seen I think. I guess because she is underage, they can't decide if the rules will be applicable to her or not.

Just another sign of the times imho. All the people who look up to her, the youth who dream of being a skater one day like her...oh...but hey it's ok to do drugs now!

I just don't have any words any more for hardly anything.

It isn't always about hate, but called that because people do not wish to change. The Bible teaches against this type of lifestyle, just as it equally condemns greed, lying, stealing, and others.

People need to wake up, repent, and trust in the Lord while there is still time. Soon the door will close and there will no going in past that point.

Exactly!

What's the moral of that story? It's okay to cheat and do drugs...just so long as you win (today). The country loves you for it.

Now take your drugs...and get back to work!

The entire gay rights into trans rights is the incrementalism in to making having sex with little kids NORMAL. These people will burn in hell.

XX = women
XY = men

Follow the #ing science. If you are born with the Y chromosome, You Are a #ing MAN. Case closed.

Sorry. I am a lifelong athlete from a background of having competed at a high level. My history is such that I have trained alongside the men in both my sports. I see with my own eyes the advantages and disadvantages that biology confers on them because they are male. They are faster, heavier, stronger, quicker as a product of their natural hormonal package. We women are outclassed by that on every level. It leads to them having denser bones, more muscle, etc.

You do not erase all that with a few years of unnatural hormones. It's ingrown and it's been an ingrown advantage from the time they were born, before even because that extra testosterone starts in the womb.

Research studies have confirmed that artificially suppressing those male hormones does not erase those advantages.

This is of particular concern to me because I still compete and in a contact/combat sport. It is not impossible that I could step into the ring against a trans athlete even at my age. We practice against everyone, including the men, and I know how much they hold back when they are against the women. At a competition that would not be extended to me.

You can take your red state hate and shove it. You speak like someone who doesn't know because you have no frame of practical experience on the matter. I do.

Trans athletes train, sure, but they are not on a level playing field with their competitors because they are still functionally biologically the sex they were born. That's all their is to it, and if you listen to experienced athletes, like even Caitlyn Jenner, who know a little something about serious competitive sport, you'll see that most of them understand what I'm saying.

Men and woman are different physically and are on different physical plains. Asking the two to compete against one another is unfair except in certain sports where the raw physicality does not come into play. What a person thinks or believes he or she is gender wise does not erase the physical reality, and medical science cannot change or address it adequately either. If it could, we would have erased the sex divisions in sports thanks to performance enhancing drugs long ago because people will dope - just ask the East Germans and today the Russians.

It's pretty clear this poster is pretty immature and living in a CNN induced alternate reality.

They have no counter-argument, only capable of regurgitating sound bites they "heard" from someone else, who heard it on MSNBC, who stole it from CNN (because they didn't have any other content).

I think the way the "rules" are written are complete bs.
There is some clause about age of the athlete.
If that is the case every country is going to have super young athletes and dope them up.
I watched all them skate and I have to say I was not impressed with any of them (not that I am a skater)
but as a viewer it was so lukewarm!

UPDATE - For those of you who may have missed it; in today's news the IOCC announced the outcome of the medal determination.

VALIEVA WILL NOT BE PUNISHED, WILL BE ALLOWED TO KEEP HER MEDALS, AND SHE WILL BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BALANCE OF THE 2022 OLYMPIC GAMES!!!

Nothing to see here, folks. Move along now.

Moral - Take drugs, and do whatever you need to do to win because that's all that matters! To Hell with everyone else!

This is UNBELIEVABLE! And it is a travesty against all of the athletes who DID follow the rules, and worked their entire lives to be a part of the Olympics!

The IOCC has just made themselve the laughing stock of the entire World (except for Russia and China, of course)!

What a COLOSSAL disappointment!
