I believe NATO did fail in expanding NATO when Russia was down and out. Though the small countries understandably joined NATO out of fear of the return of a Russian threat. NATO had control and should have been more conscious and tried to bring the world to a state of peaceful coexistence. But it didn’t. So now they're paying the price. It's a leadership problem, no American president would risk his political neck by countering the American Military Industrial Complex nor the cold war mentality that though seemed to abate after the Soviet collapse still rules the west’s consciousness. But Putin threatening a small vulnerable country, Ukraine, is not a solution to the problem either.

Putin should see in 1945 to the 50s that the west when it had nuclear superiority didn't attack Russia. And when Russia was down and out didn't direct again challenge Russia. So, why would he think the west will somehow attack him now? He has no basis for that belief.

The fact of the matter is the world lacks the leadership of a Kennedy or a Mikhail Gorbachev type who will go to the mat and think of world peace and risk their political necks and their very life as in Kennedy for the sake of a world of peace and tranquility not a world of threatening war every few years.

FWIW Kennedy did get us out of the missile crisis but he threw us into the Bay of Pigs, granted I believe it was planned in the Eisenhower administration. Regardless he learned fast that the CIA was more than a little sketchy. The thing with Kennedy he did seem to really care about people a good leader always has that.

Currently not so much

I'm a little disappointed after Bloomberg decided (mistakenly?) to put up the Breaking News tag the other day declaring that the Russian invasion of Ukraine had started, and it turned out to be a little premature!

Even funnier was Boris Johnson's trip to Ukraine. Under fire and calls to resign at home, and despite pushing the idea that a Russian invasion of Ukraine is imminent, he still chose to travel there, considering it far less hostile than No. 10 Downing Street right now.

Going back to the end of the Obama Admin. The Russian embassy in the US was emptied, fast, and during one of the last interviews with Stephanopolous I believe, President Obama stated plainly that the Russians were hacking elections in the US.

But more importantly in the now..Russias handling of Syria/Aleppo a while ago. The way I understood Russia was given the opportunity to HELP in Syria as the US pulled back. Russia was supposed to handle that quietly at night if You will, but Putin used it as an opportunity to go all shirtless and buddy up to Assad, which he did, and used gas in the process. Putin turned an opportunity to be instrumental in the war on terror into a political stunt of butchery and bravado.

Why do we give two monkey tails about Ukraine? Is it so that Putin isn't able to organize and endear himself to the neo nazi/ far right elements active in the Ukraine? Boulster his security in the region maybe.

We see what he's doing with Xi.

It took me a minute here to figure out that when folks talked of the CCP that they weren't referring to the Chinese people as a whole, Same with Russia and Putin. People in the US don't judge the Russian people by the actions of their little man complex having NarcisSadist waste of flesh leader.

Putin loves the attention almost as much as Trump did. No wonder the bromance.

Putins Russia is not worth one American life. Furthermore Ive sensed fear here concerning the prospect of fighting Putin and Xi. Let me re assure the frightened ones..Only thing we have to worry about there is maybe running out of beer and bullets and corpse disposal.

Way it sounds coming out of Ukraine, they don't even want us there..just weapons.

Its sad to see Ukraines women and children 'training' with cardboard rifles though. That in itself makes me willing to fight for them...

Did the russian bear so much as fart or belch yet?

Check out this Putin-Xi info from CherokeeTroy: www.abovetopsecret.com...

Joe Biden thought Vladimir Putin spent the weekend sitting in a tent on the Ukraine-Russia border trying to figure out if he should invade Ukraine, or not invade Ukraine.

He (Biden's) going to feel really bad when he learns that big agreements are being made, without even considering what he thinks or wants.

Why didn't they ask me? Don't they know who I am?!?!

Russia has done exactly what so far?

Aside from getting embarrassed in the winter Olympics, of course.

How is Russia getting embarrassed in the winter Olympics exactly???

Russia has 10 medals!!! The most medals of any country FFS. Russia has 2 gold medals the USA has 0 gold and only 5 medals (4 bronze)

Biden sends a letter to Putin asking if it's OK to give him a call.

MOSCOW, February 12. /TASS/. The presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, plan to have a phone conversation on Saturday, February 12, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.

"Indeed, the US side requested a conversation with President Putin, and the talks of the two presidents are planned to take place tomorrow in the evening, Moscow time," he said.

"The request was preceded by a letter from the US side," he said.
More at: tass.com...

The article said one side wanted the call to take place tomorrow, instead of this coming Monday, as originally requested. Not sure who, though.

It's interesting that only the USA is in such a panic-mode over Russia possibly invading Ukraine. The leaders of Ukraine, and the citizens of Ukraine, aren't the least bit concerned, according to reports from journalists on the ground there.

Something is very weird about what President Biden is referring to as a "CRISIS".
