I figured out that "air fryers" are basically just re-branded and slightly re-designed convection ovens. We have a convection oven and I like it. It does some things really really well. I have an oven fried chicken recipe that works well with it.

I found a great recipe for crispy Chinese pork belly, as good as the restaurant.

Give it a go.

I too being from the east coast never really had southwest style jerky or rather carne secca as they call it. Mind was blown and I am addicted now. The wife's family sends us big bags of the stuff anytime someone somes or goes lol! A nice green chilie soaked super thin cut crunchy meat chip...now I want some...

Yea, lol ironically I recently ordered some as my lady asked for some for valentine's day. I went with mango green chile, pineapple green chile, red chile beef and then some garlic pepper for myself. Now if we can only keep the kids from finding it lol. Once they figure out we got some, they perfect their magic skill of making things disappear.

If you happen tonlive in driving distance of a bass Pro shop, stop by and buy a bag of Johnny morris steak strips. I went there to buy a very specific grill I wanted last September, and happened to get a promotion they had where i saved like sixty dollars for signing up for their MasterCard. I needed to close like a twelve dollar gap so I just grabbed a bag of this stuff because the kids and I were late for dinner.

Like a bag of chips, i just could not put this down. Not quite southwest style carne seca, but damn was it the best gummy meat we ever had lol! It's on the other side of town though otherwise i would probably buy this a couple times a month.

How does one go about drying their own meat anyways??? Can we use an air fryer for that purpose??

Please stop, I need to wait 3 days for Jerky goodness, not sure my keyboard can survive this amount of drool.

I completely understand but also you might want to consider South African biltong, very similar to jerky and there are places in the UK that have it. Stryve is a brand here in the US that's pretty good, but I would imagine the UK would have more varieties, and perhaps with the South African connection a little cheaper.

I prefer jerky because it's smoked where biltong isn't, but it is still pretty good and it seems you might be able to find it locally too

yoursouthafricanshop.co.uk...

lastly here are some beef jerky suppliers in the UK

jerkyup.com...

and these guys come highly rated in the UK as well

Good luck ...

Actually for us:

The number #1 best for me cooking a perfect steak. Up until then, grilling, pan frying, broiling, usually a miss for me. No other method I have tried ended up with crusty outside and medium inside. I do stop and turn every 5 minutes in the air fryer.

The best for reheating old french frys from fast food places, premier reheater of leftover pizza, also recrisps restaurant tortilla chips.

The trick for me for other stuff is to turn, rotate, shake every 5 minutes maximum.

I LOVED it at first, had it for several years now, used it nearly daily, now I use it about once a week or so. Hubby uses it more often for reheating stuff that needs recrisping which is a total microwave fail.

Can’t stand biltong, it’s like beef jerky that’s been left way too long. I’ve tried a few brands before but not for me. Tastes like it’s on the turn.

I'm living in Vegas these days so thankfully I am so close I can get the new mexican stuff real easy these days. Same for proper green and red chilie...somethings you just really missed living in the east coast!

I can see that, it happens with jerky as well just got the Rio Grande order in. Who knows it may be a bad batch but I won't be reordering. It's way too expensive for its quality

I had a Tefal ActiFry air fryer until it popped its clogs (died) last week , as of today I'm starting a new journey with a Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 multicooker , it's an air fryer / pressure cooker combined so larger chunks of meat can be cooked in the pressure cooker then air fried in one unit.... the opportunities seem endless.

I'm happy with it although it does fall somewhere between traditional beef jerky and biltong, the red chilli is fantastic, ate about a lb of it over last 2 days. My guts however aren't enjoying it as much as me.

Well you end up paying alot more when having it shipped. I have always felt it was a bit pricey, but where else can I get it like that for cheap r??
a reply to: Grenade
They sell stryve biltong in stores here. It tastes like normal mass produced gummy meat to me, like jack links . But I think I liked it less.

Hey I just got another shipment. Did yours come in paper bags stapled shut?? I'm not so sure i liked it packaged that way. My previous orders at least came in sealed plastic bags.

Yeah, hash browns are the bomb in an air fryer. I can do fish patties (cod) and hash browns at the same time in mine, comes out perfect every time.

Tater tots are amazing in an air fryer. Baked potato is terrific in an air fryer. Egg rolls are great, corn dog nuggets too.

As others have mentioned, temperature should be down a little from regular oven recipe, along with cooking time.
