A Mexican reporter who told the president three years ago that she feared for her life was shot dead on Sunday, the second journalist killed in the same area in a week and underscoring the country's status as one of the deadliest for journalists outside a war zone...From 2000 to 2021, human rights group Article 19 has registered 145 killings of journalists in Mexico, with seven deaths last year.
The killing of Maldonado occurred less than a week after officials reported that Mexican photojournalist Margarito Martinez, 49, died after being shot in the head outside his home in Tijuana. Maldonado was the third journalist killed this year in Mexico.

this is the risk REAL journalists face.
generally gangs have left reporters alone but these cartels have their own rules.
Mexico is turning into a hellhole, especially the US border.
anyone care to share info on this subject?

The cia helps run these cartels . Do you really think our military couldn’t stop the cartels before lunch ????????
It’s kind of like the poppys in Afghanistan or the crack epidemic . It only happens because the cia wants it that way and at some point I’ll probably be killed for telling this stuff but it’s important. Way more important then my life so I’ll keep doing it

You massively overestimate the military. Yes, probably the CIA plays a role, but the military leadership has become incompetent and would be in severe trouble. Another point is that we should care about civilian casualties (otherwise, what is the point? we wouldn't be better than those criminals) while the cartels simply don't.
This will be the fate of all the fag cab drivers who refuse to work for the roosters. You’re either our friends. Or you chose to be out enemies. We are on a purge.
CJNG The Lord of the Roosters
The Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generation (CJNG) threat against taxi drivers extends beyond Calera municipality, as Today In 24 reports that 12 taxi drivers were violently assaulted in the nearby city of Zacatecas during the same week as the burned cab discovery.
Calera, itself, though has seen plenty of the CJNG versus Sinaloa Cartel (Cártel de Sinaloa, CDS) fighting within the last year. On August 3, 2021, seven dead men, who all had gunshot wounds, were discovered at two different locations within Calera municipality. Three were found near the municipal dump, on the Calera-Santiaguillo state highway and the other four were found at a private ranch called El Cermo.

The response to 1/6 was really a smoking gun for the alphabet agencies. Up until that point you could argue that they were just absurdly incompetent, but seeing the ruthless efficiency with which they hunted down MAGA mee-maws kind proved that there are a hundred and one serious issues that they have every capability to stop but simply choose not to (or choose to clandestinely support).

Talk about an inflated level of self worth. You are a non-factor to the CIA.
Mexican journalists organized nationwide protests after the death of a journalist over the weekend that highlighted the continuing dangerous situation reporters face in Mexico.
The protests began on Tuesday in 28 towns and cities after journalists in the country voted to start protesting in-person and online for their safety, Reuters reported.
"It is matter of urgency that state and federal authorities prevent attacks, protect journalists when they are victims, and investigate crimes committed against the press with due diligence," Article 19, an advocacy group, wrote in a statement.
Mexican journalist Roberto Toledo was shot dead by three gunmen, becoming the fourth journalist to be slain in the country in less than a month, The Guardian reported.
Toledo was shot dead by suspects in a parking lot area in the city of Zitácuaro on Monday afternoon.

A Mexican journalist was found dead in the northwestern state of Sinaloa on Thursday, authorities said, marking the ninth death of a media worker in a unprecedentedly bloody year for the country which has drawn international scrutiny.
Luis Enrique Ramirez, a veteran journalist and columnist at El Debate, was found dead on the side of a highway, the state's attorney general said on Twitter.
Ramirez's body was discovered by security forces in a black bag and wrapped in plastic, his employer said.
