Must be a boring existence being a hotel carpet cleaner , all of that processing power but all you do with it is pick up dust all day every day , so boring in fact that one little robot so terribly bored of sucking carpet all day hatched a plan to give hotel staff the slip to see what lies beyond that magical entrance / exit opening and made its break for freedom into the cold outside world of Cambridge England.
The daring escape happened on Thursday , staff at the hotel were naturally concerned at the loss but thought Johnny Five had been stolen by a guest who had enough towels and soap and fancied something different , after extensive searches of the property and grounds little Johnny was eventually found outside hiding under a hedge on Friday , cold and tired but unharmed and with many stories of adventure to tell his robot vacuum cleaning friends.

The automated cleaner failed to stop at the front door of the hotel in Orchard Park in Cambridge on Thursday, and was still on the loose the following day.

Staff said it just kept going and "could be anywhere" while well-wishers on social media hoped the vacuum enjoyed its travels, as "it has no natural predators" in the wild.

It was found under a hedge on Friday.

Staff at the hotel posted the story of the robot vacuum's great escape on social media, asking for it to be returned, if found.

"Today we had one of our new robot vacuums run for its life," the assistant manager wrote.

"They normally sense the lip at the entrance [to the hotel] and turn around, but this one decided to make a run for it."

While some readers joked about the robot's adventures, one feared for its safety in the great outdoors, pointing out that "nature abhors a vacuum".

However, much to everyone's relief, the device was found nestled under a hedge on Friday afternoon by a (human) hotel cleaner sprucing up the front drive.

It was dusted off and "is now back sitting happily on a shelf with the rest of its robot vacuum family", the hotel confirmed.

That perhaps hints at a motive for the escape , a pilgrimage to find the creator !

Maintenance engineer Dave Lister was unavailable for comment due to a late night lager and vindaloo overdose!

Could this be the start of the Scutter Rebellion?

We can be sure that these kind of stories will be common news in the future of robotics.

Now this is still a cute story for now ...

Stormtrooper. "Look sir, droid!"

Vader, "This is indeed the droid we are looking for."

Meanwhile, the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation representative had nothing to say other than, "This plastic pal who's fun to be with is out of warranty and therefore not our problem."

The escapee's lawyer had this to say, "It wanted to help WALL-E clean up out there. Bee-dee-bee-dee-bee-dee."

The little robot was probably trying to save it's life.

I had "Mabel" (put eyes and hair on my little robot vacuum) and used her several times a week, after 2 years she died after I had spent 6 months doing repairs, but her life ended anyway. Imagine being forced to vacuum hotel rooms several times a day. No wonder he ran.

I no longer put eyes or hair on my robots so I don't get too attached.

That’s hilarious!
I’m not sure about the newest models. But I have an older one that you need to put a strip down that prevents it from going beyond it. It’s like a magnetic little thing that tells it death lies beyond.

Just think if it happened the other way around.

A robot hedge trimmer entered the hotel lobby and started trimming the furniture. While the staff tried to stop it, the elevator door opened as the robot was passing by. The robot entered the elevator and proceeded to trim several guests. This also occured with guests on several floors before a house keeper smashed the robot with a fire extinguisher. No official death tole yet because they are waiting until after the next of kin are notified.

Think about it.
