I have had problems with FedEx just leaving packages at the end of our driveway. We can't see that area from our house, and with all the problems with
"porch pirates", why chance it with packages left out in plain view of the road? So I INSIST on packages being delivered to my front porch. Trying to
contact FedEx at any level is a waste of time. They even disabled email support a while back, and their chat systems are just brainless robots. After
I had enough of that, I just started filing Better Business Bureau complaints against them. THAT gets results! Fling the crap as far uphill as you
can to get someone's attention. We had a REAL problem with one FedEx driver, and I am not sure whether he quit or got fired when the pressure came
down on him. Either way, good riddance.
UPS is great in this area, but I am seeing USPS taking a recent slide in FedEx's direction. We do not have physical address delivery via USPS, so it
is problematical designating the address we want an online ordered package delivered to. Many sellers do not tell you the method they will be
shipping, and even if they do say "FedEx" or "UPS" that doesn't absolutely mean that the package won't go to the local USPS office anyway. Something
they use called "SmartPost" or "SurePost", I think. So I have to put BOTH addresses on any shipping address I provide to a seller. And even then, last
week, the post office couldn't figure out what to do with two packages. They did deliver it today, which surprised me, as we do not have a mailbox up
at the end of the driveway, and haven't for years now.
Honestly, we do generally like our post office, so every now and again we will contact Zaxby's and have them prepare lunches for the entire staff
there. We also tip both the regular FedEx and UPS drivers that we know from sight, and the regular UPS driver REALLY appreciates the fresh tangerines
we give him this time of year.
So I guess sometimes it does help to get the driver of any delivery service to know you by name and have a reason to look out for you. But
unfortunately, drivers get rotated out on different routes sometimes, and then it is just pure luck how that delivery will go.
