It has also caused real women named Karen to actually be spit on and treated badly by strangers who overheard their name.

If you go back to some of the older translations the language implies overt displays of wealth (Revelation 17:4), and that both rulers and the common people have become literally or metaphorically intoxicated by her (Revelation 17:2).

In the context of 2022 this sound more like a celebrity figure on social media, or a popstar. The WHO hardly parades its wealth around, and these days it's a source of doom porn, which isn't known for pushing people into fits of ecstasy.

I was taught the Catholic Church is The Great Whore. The church is referred to as the Bride of Christ..Cant turn a Ho into a housewife I guess..Mark of the beast..also figurative..VISA..VI=6 Roman numerals, S for 6 in some other stretch and A..old contemporary christian conspiracy...nothing new under the sun..

Given that the power of the church is waning, and has been doing so for generations, I'm not sure how it could be the whore if this is supposed to be a prophecy for future events. It would only make sense if this was an even that had already passed.

I guess prophecy is difficult. We were discouraged from reading it much. Time is a hard subject also..My guess is the true bride of christ can NOT be a whore, so the scripture showed a separation from the 'Whore' (Catholic Church, who in fact murdered Christ) and the introduction of Christs true Bride.(the new church)..totally spitballing, trying to be careful discussing a doctrine of which I am not a follower.a reply to: AaarghZombies

One of the difficulties with texts like this is that they're often been translated into two or three different languages before they come to English.

For example, there is some debate as to whether the best translation is "whore" or merely "Harlot". And exactly how literal or metaphorical we should take this.

"Whore" suggests that there is something sexual, or at least immoral at play. That an act of seduction is involved.

"Harlot" suggests something that's more a brazen display. Which I tend to favor as a translation as other verses describe displays of wealth and power. Imagine the the whoreHarlot as being someone who rides into a city at the head of a parade displaying their wealth, and who has the rich and powerful come out to greet them. All of them seduced by the whore's wealth and power, and each of them wanting a piece of it for their own ends.

This really doesn't sound like the WHO, or the UN, or pretty much anything of that nature. When was the last time you any of these groups marching around displaying their wealth?

If anything this sounds more like Kim Kardashian walking down a red carpet. Not some stuffy old executive in a gray suit and a white SUV.
