I think it all boils down to Aus$'s.
They made an exemption just for him because the No1 tennis player in the world not playing threatens their bottom line.
I think some politicians worried about optics intervened as they are quite rabid Down Under. A dingo bit their politicians.
A second tennis player has had their visa cancelled and been told by the Australian Border Force to leave the country as Novak Djokovic released a public statement for the first time since his detention, thanking fans for their support.
The Czech doubles specialist Renata Voracova, due to play in the Australian Open this month, had entered Melbourne with the same medical exemption for which Djokovic was denied access, having signified that she had recently recovered from Covid-19. After successfully entering Melbourne’s borders with her medical exemption, Voracova played in the Melbourne Summer Set event, losing in the first round alongside partner Kateryzna Piter.

Why is he incarcerated in Australia? I thought they gave him a medical exemption or something?
Tennis Australia gave him the exemption, they do not have the authority to allow unvaccinated people into the country.
That decision is down to the government.

But on Wednesday afternoon, the home affairs minister, Karen Andrews, indicated the federal government might also have a say in the matter. Andrews said in a statement it was for Tennis Australia and the Victorian government to decide whether a non-vaccinated player could take part in the Australian Open but “it is the commonwealth government that will enforce our requirements at the Australian border”

He should have gone through the correct channels.

But what's medically wrong with him?
I mean imagine there was conscription and every male had to go, and somebody of his fitness level simply refused.
He'd be shot or imprisoned, in many countries today still.
And yes even the US there is select service sign-up.
Maybe I'd have more sympathy if I knew what ailed him.
Sorry bro you can't have your cake and eat it too.
Disclose your medical reasons or accept the consequences (being something like a "conscientious objector").
And I do know somebody in Germany who has liver cirrhosis due to cancer, and he got a medical exemption, but then again he hasn't worn shoes in two years because he hasn't left the house.
But if you're fit enough to frolic about on a tennis court, you really need to convince the rest of us you should get an exemption.

Wish ALL the players would take a stand & say they will not participate in the AO.
Standing up for their brothers & sisters as well as the people of Australia who are being treated inhumane....something along those lines my wording could have been better.
Cheers

So true.
I wonder, if his home country is backing him as much as we hear, why he isn’t being put up in the consulate or embassy?
