Mayor of Naples Italy bans fireworks for New Year's Eve 2nd year in a row, blaming COVID. Naples citizens take heed and comply, somewhat.

The mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi tonight signed an unprecedented ordinance for the Campania capital, which imposes “a ban on the use of fireworks, firecrackers, barrels, rockets and similar pyrotechnic devices throughout the city from 16 to 31 December at 24 on January 1st ».

The penalties: fines of up to 500 euros
“Unless the fact constitutes a crime – concludes the order signed by the mayor – Violators of the prohibition are punished by applying the administrative sanction envisaged for an amount between € 25 and € 500, the seizure and confiscation of pyrotechnic material. The Autonomous Local Police Service and all the other agents of the public force are in charge of supervising compliance with the ordinance ».

On new years eve day at 7 I went to the movies, me and my girl wondered why so many people were standing around the stadium... Boom fireworks for ten minutes we got there at the exact perfect time to see them start and end and had no idea they were happening. Can't go to Celtics or Bruins games tho 😔. This is so dumb

It's not just dumb it's authoritarian overreach and overreaction, from even supposedly normal people previously to their COVID induced hysteria.

Be careful who you say that to, a certain small militant section of the opposition has no qualms about restricting your movements for non-compliance. Pretty sure this subset was likely part of the overly zealous hall monitors and safety patrol of our youth.

Small town north of here on the lake couldn't have their 15 minute show either. So 100 shows went on for 3 hours and thousands of people partied in the streets anyway.

Rules are for other people.

In London they put on quite a show with fireworks, lasers and drones. But all those fireworks??? Where was the reasoning, think of the planet, clean air act, pollution, carbon credits. That's sarcasm folks.
