Receiving messages from the spirit world

That sounds more like receiving a message from the unconscious. So it's pretty much splitting hairs with the spirit world.

Unconscious does do trippy things though.

This was one of my favorite shows because I liked the woman who talked to a log. And I was allowed to watch it.

Didn't really fully get it until I rewatched it as an adult when streaming became a thing.

In Twin Peaks, and the movie, Return, and associated fan literature, Like The Diary of Ashley Biden Laura Palmer, it conveys demons are caused by trauma.

Laura's upstanding father Leland would become 'possessed,' by an "inhabiting spirit" (split personality) that would repeatedly rape her as a child. So she was a drug addicted casino call girl by senior year, doing insanely adult and perverse things. All caused by her father and his rapey alter-ego "Stranger Bob".

I always liked it because it portrayed demonology as rooted in some type of trauma that sends the unconscious into self-destructive and high-risk behavior.

Including how repression can literally split a person into separate personalities that in turn can be passed on.

It makes me wonder if the unconscious projects out of your crown and propagates like a wave bouncing off the ionosphere...
