She's been feeling a bit under the weather lately so I thought I'd do something nice to cheer her up. I booked a short break for us in the spring, and then she gets all upset and angry when I tell her that I'm going to take her to the Lake District and Cockermouth. There's just no pleasing them is there.

I'm a woman. I got thrown expensive stuff at me when all I wanted was a cup of tea and a blanket. And maybe an 'awww do you need something'
So it's not funny to me.
And if you double down with this grande machismo posturing I might barf but I don't laugh.
It's more a cry for help and therapy than a joke.
There's no shame in that we're all varying degrees of dysfunctional.

But it's more sad than funny, if you're honest.
