I say 'just', happened a few days ago.

I've had it about 3 years, everything working fine, then - nothing.

Black screen, no power. Put it on charge, no joy. I didn't drop it or spilt something on it.

I've taken it to 2 different places. Not only could they not fix it, they both said it couldn't be fixed.

It's unfixable!

With the old phones, I always found that there was a problem with the charging ports. It would get harder to charge up over time, but at least you got some notice. Apart from that, they worked fine. And they could always be fixed.

With increasing technology, there's more scope for things going wrong. And when they do, it's big time.

It was an Alcatel 3 if you're interested. Might wanna give that model a wide berth if you're thinking of buying a smart phone.

I'm really pissed off cos it was a great phone actually. And there's loads of information on the phone itself rather than the SIM that's now lost forever.

Bought a new one, a Samsung Galaxy A5. Don't you hate getting used to new phones?

Can't stand this one.

Such is life. Things break from time to time. Not sure this was worthy of a thread to be honest.

Yeah, you're right.

I should have done one on the evil coronavirus vaccines instead.

I'm a bit backwards in coming forwards but I'm getting there.

Try this: techidaily.com...

I'll post a little more later if I have any other ideas... I'm a bit overwhelmed with family strife at the moment.

Planned obsolescence. Your phone expired on time b/c it was time to fork out some more cash for a new one. Same with washing machines, dryers, etc.

Risky in a age with no payphones and no one who would stop and help you

The same reason I had to get a phone eventually (maybe have had one 3 or 4 years now). I was too worried about getting stuck on the side of the road and no way of getting help.

Also, did you try a wireless charger?

All reality rusts.

We entropy.

However, three years from a smartphone is a good innings. There are so many things that could go wrong. I think that, in light of that, technology is a marvel.

To what?

A computer. The cloud. A thumb drive.

As I tell friends and family: the “cloud” is where you go to lose things.

One can use it for convenience, but don’t trust it. Have layered physical backups. And sync services i.e. iCloud are NOT backups.

I do t have a cell phone -100% by choice, but my wife does.
An IPhone 6. Got it for her when they first came out with that model. I don’t even know what version iPhones are on now, but this little beast has been kicking for awhile now.

I take it you don't own one then?

No. I used to have one, but I accidentally ran over it several years ago. I then proceeded to destroy it and throw it away, and haven't had another. I also don't mind if no one can get ahold of me. I kindof prefer it that way.

I would have hoped to get a tad more than 3 years' life out of it but I take your point.

And maybe some inkling it was going to happen?

It's just the suddenness.

One day son 3G will discontinued.
Then everyone will need to be using 5G.

Then one day soon, phones will be discontinued, and everyone will need to use their neural link injection system.
If you don't have this, if you managed to make it for the next 6 years without getting injected with an operating system - then you made it! And you can now be 'free' from technology (all communication, pretty much).

Sounds great to me.

Future 'burners' will just be some dead person's arm on a chain with wires hanging out of it that connect to a pair of glasses that you wear. You need to buy the dead person's arm on the black market. It comes complete with the latest neural link software and will have limited talk, and depending on the dead person's arm's former operator's social credit score - various types of packages for the data plan.

That's an interesting picture you painted there.

I have a question though: Do they have to be dead?
I mean, that's not actually a necessity, right?

Try living life without one. It may seem unimaginable, but people used to live their entire lives without ever having a phone in their pocket.

It can still be done today.

Not sure who has a life that you CAN live without one. I dont. I have to have one with my job, have a kid who we need to have access with each other, family out of state. And havent actually seen a payphone in a gazillion years.

Would be nice....but not possible.

A "cord" from phone to computer every once and awhile. Save everything on it to removable card or flash. Contacts, pics, lnx, tabs, movies, music?

????????????????You didn't know?
